New family guides for Aurich: Support for parents in need!

The latest survey on voter turnout shows an encouraging trend: over 82.5 percent of those eligible to vote cast their vote in the 2025 federal election. This is the highest voter turnout since reunification and shows how actively citizens in Germany participate in political decisions. What is particularly noteworthy is that those eligible to vote are preparing well for the upcoming elections and have a strong interest in the political issues.

What else could have contributed to the increase in this participation? An interesting correlation study shows that the development of voter turnout in recent decades is influenced by various factors, such as demographic changes and the parties' information campaigns. All Germans aged 18 and over have the right to vote in federal elections, and an increase in the proportion of voters aged 70 and over has been noted, reflecting demographic changes.

Age groups in focus

Older voters were particularly active this year. The group of 50 to 69 year olds achieved the highest voter turnout at 85.5 percent. Even among younger people, a certain level of interest is visible, even if 18 to 20 year olds only had a voter turnout of 78.8 percent. Interestingly, the data shows that men aged 70 and over, with a voter turnout of 82.6 percent, go to the polls more often than their female counterparts, whose turnout is 76.8 percent.

Another notable point is that voter turnout in East Germany continues to lag compared to West Germany, but the gap is slowly narrowing. The lowest voter turnout was recorded in Saxony-Anhalt at 77.7 percent, while the highest was achieved in Bavaria at 84.3 percent. The Cologne II constituency is at the top in the entire republic with 88 percent.

Postal voting is becoming increasingly popular

Speaking of voting: Postal voting is also very popular. In 2025, around 37.0 percent of voters cast their votes before the election date. This represents a decrease from the pandemic-related 47.3 percent last year, but remains a clear sign of the shift to more convenient forms of voting. Since the introduction of postal voting without giving a reason in 2009, the number of postal voters has been steadily increasing.

According to Statista, there are over 60 million people eligible to vote, and it remains to be seen how these numbers will develop in the coming years. The last elections show that these citizens are actively participating in the democratic design of our country and are setting an important example.

In summary, it can be said that the 2025 federal election will not only go down in the history books because of its high voter turnout, but will also serve as an indicator of society's growing awareness of political participation. The next election will show whether this trend will continue or whether there will be a decline again, as has sometimes been observed in the past.

The coming months will bring a lot of political discussions and we can be curious to see how the situation will develop. Citizens have the opportunity to get involved and raise their voices. With such commitment, the future can be actively shaped.
