Eintracht Braunschweig celebrates liberation and looks ahead to the Hanover derby!
After a dry spell of over two months and four defeats in a row, Eintracht Braunschweig got back on the road to success last weekend in Düsseldorf. The cathartic 2-0 win not only gave the team new energy, but also ended their six-game winless streak. Coach Heiner Backhaus was able to receive positive feedback for his tactical approach after the game. During the international break, which came at exactly the right time for Braunschweig, the coach led his team specifically to regenerate.
The return of Lino Tempelmann to the starting line-up was particularly pleasing, as he immediately contributed to the success after a fitness phase. Christian Joe Conteh scored the first goal of the game with great work from Max Marie, who was also able to celebrate - he scored for the first time in the professional game. Meanwhile, Florian Flick pointed out the strong defensive performance, which ensured that Düsseldorf hardly had any real chances.
Epochal weeks and new impulses
During the international break, the team decided not to play a friendly match. Coach Backhaus explained that the focus was on preparing for the upcoming games. The week before had been very intense: a cup game against VfB Stuttgart ended unfortunately for Braunschweig in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes. The game against Arminia Bielefeld also ended 1-1, which illustrated the urgent need for a win. For their next opponent, SV Darmstadt 98, the teams are tied for sixth place in the table, which promises an exciting duel.
Florian Flick, who moved from 1. FC Nürnberg to Eintracht Braunschweig on Deadline Day, could now play for the first time against Darmstadt. Backhaus describes Flick as capable of passing with excellent spatial awareness, which makes him a serious option for the starting eleven. The expectations are high, especially after the disappointing performance of Hannover 96, who lost a bitter 3-0 against Schalke and thus gave the Braunschweigers additional motivation for the upcoming derby.
Change of coach and sometimes turbulent times
It should be noted that Eintracht has been turbulent in the recent past. At the beginning of the month, the club parted ways with coach Daniel Scherning, who, despite a strong start to the season with wins against Paderborn, Hamburg and Kaiserslautern, ultimately failed to bring the necessary success. The last defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg was the impetus for the decision, especially since they were sticking to staying in the league. Assistant coach Marc Pfitzner took over responsibility and will lead the team until further notice. However, the appreciation for Scherning remains undiminished.
With a new self-confidence and missing out on another relegation spot, Braunschweig is optimistic about the upcoming derby. Coach Backhaus and his team hope to carry this positive energy into the coming games and continue to score points while the player fans work towards the next exciting game.
