The sign, explains a spokesman for the city of Braunschweig, is connected to the construction work on Hagenmarkt. It shows diversion routes for cyclists because the ongoing work requires alternative routes. Jens Schütte, chairman of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) in Braunschweig, has also never seen the sign before. Confusion and uncertainty
The different colors - red, black and pink - are supposed to help, but in fact they only highlight the insecurity. Schütte complains that orientation for cyclists could be guaranteed much better. “Using numbers might be more helpful here,” he says. The city spokesman acknowledges that some people have difficulty distinguishing colors in different lighting conditions. It is also the first time that a shield of this type has been designed with such arrows.
