New Hölty-Gymnasium in Hambühren: Milestone for education!

The new Hölty-Gymnasium was ceremoniously opened in Hambühren on June 26, 2025, which is celebrated as a significant milestone for the educational landscape in the Celle district. Mayor Carsten Kranz was able to observe the construction progress from the town hall. With a generous investment of 52 million euros, the district administration has launched the largest school project in this region. In his speech, District Administrator Axel Flader emphasized how important this educational institution is for the future of the students and acknowledged the former head teacher Monika Nerreter as a central figure in the project.

The new building ensemble was designed according to the latest educational standards and offers space for around 900 students in grades 8 to 13 on an area of 10,000 square meters. The 450 students in grades 5 to 7 will continue to be taught in the existing building. Headmaster Stefan Lahme described the Hölty-Gymnasium as a “magnificent building” with spacious, open learning landscapes and a central entrance hall. The school's coat of arms, a peacock, adorns the facade and fits perfectly with the motto: “Heart and mind at Hölty hand in hand”.

A modern school concept

The Hölty-Gymnasium places particular emphasis on promoting individual talents and interests. In a wide range of afternoon activities, students can take advantage of many different working groups, including robotics, wind music classes and an art workshop. Afternoon care for grades 5 and 6 is also offered from Monday to Thursday.

Foreign language education starts in the 5th grade with English as the first language, followed by French, Latin or Spanish from the 6th grade. There is also the option of choosing a third foreign language as part of compulsory elective lessons from the 8th grade onwards. This comprehensive training is intended to optimally prepare students for the future and at the same time teach them responsibility for themselves and their society.

A look into the future

The Hölty-Gymnasium will not only cover the local educational needs, but is also part of an overarching trend: the need for financing school properties in Germany is continuously increasing as the number of required school places increases. As stated in a study by PwC, educational properties are considered attractive investment properties that have a high level of social relevance and at the same time offer a sustainable return.

The official inauguration of the new Hölty High School marks the beginning of a new educational era in the region. With an open day on March 7, 2025 and a parent information evening on March 3, the school is offering future students and their parents many opportunities to find out about the new offerings and become part of this exciting development.
