Play to prevent violence: The woman who ran into doors”!

In just under three weeks, the Cloppenburg Cultural Station will be the venue for a very important event. The performance of the play “The Woman Who Ran into Doors” will take place there on November 27th. This play marks the International Day against Violence against Women and Girls. The event is organized by the equal opportunities officer of the Cloppenburg district, the city of Cloppenburg, the city of Friesoythe and the DRK Violence Protection Center, who want to draw attention to an urgent social problem.

Actress Lisa Bihl will star as Paula Spencer. The plot of the play revolves around an alcoholic woman who is confronted with her violent past. In this context, the topic of violence is examined, derived from the Middle High German “violent”, which means something like power and authoritarian control ( Wiktionary ). This examination of violence is both literary and emotionally powerful and challenges viewers to reflect critically.

Interactive installation to prevent violence

In addition to the theater performance, the interactive room installation “RosenZimmer” will be shown in the DRK violence protection center in Cloppenburg. This installation complements the program and shows the reality of violence in a seemingly cozy living room. Visitors are invited to discover diaries, voice messages and chat histories that illustrate the different facets of violence. The message conveyed here is that violence is an insidious problem that often takes place in secret.

The installation is accessible from November 25th to December 11th, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. School classes from the 8th grade onwards can book appointments online, and groups also have the opportunity to arrange tours through the DRK Violence Protection Center or the Equal Opportunities Officer.

Tickets and further information

Anyone interested in the performance can secure their tickets in advance at the Terwelp bookstore. The price for general seats is 8 euros, while discounted tickets are available for 5 euros. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the play starts at 7 p.m.

Given the serious issues raised on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, there is immense value in supporting such events and actively addressing the issues of violence and its roots. Participation in the play or installation can make an important contribution to raising awareness of these important social issues.
