Students from the Lukas School are running for a new sports hall in Bassum!

On October 3, 2025, around 350 middle and high school students from the Lukas School in Bassum organized a sponsored run that was dedicated to a new sports hall. The school principals Gabriele Wilk-Batram and Horst-Dieter Jobst ceremoniously opened the event. As the District newspaper reports, Mr. Jobst is not only the patron of the project, but has also personally provided 500,000 euros for the construction, which is estimated at 2.6 million euros in total. This sports hall will bear the name of his late wife Gabi Jobst and is an important project for the school community.

The sponsored run follows a simple but effective concept: the students are looking for sponsors who donate a contribution for each lap they run. What is particularly pleasing is the number of over 300 sponsors, including some who offer three-digit amounts. This support speaks volumes about the community spirit in Bassum and the commitment to the school community. Around 30 teachers and just as many parents were actively involved in making the run a success. They took care of safety on the route, distributed water and recorded the laps the participants had run.

The goal of the run

The basic equipment of the new sports hall is expected to cost 60,000 euros. However, this hall is not only intended for the Lukas School. It will also be available to surrounding schools and sports clubs and thus make a significant contribution to promoting sport in the region. Accounting for the money raised will take place in the coming weeks and further sponsorship events are already being planned to further advance construction.

The trend for sponsored runs is not new, but it is still very popular. Similar events take place, for example, at Marienhöhe, where over 5,300 laps were run in their sponsored run in September 2025 and more than 45,000 euros were raised. The recipients of donations included, among other things, aid projects for Ukrainian partner schools as well as offers of aid for disadvantaged children in Cambodia and Romania, such as sponsorenlauf.marienhoehe.de explained.

Overall, sponsored runs offer a great opportunity to combine fundraising with sport and community spirit. Whether parents, friends or companies – many actors help to support these important projects.
