Family research: Free workshop in Nordhorn in November!

There is something happening in Nordhorn for everyone who is interested in family research. On Friday, November 14th, the Emsland Landscape Family Research Working Group invites you to an exciting workshop. From 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., those interested can find out about the most important source groups for family-relevant information in the district and municipal archive, NINO-Allee 2. The event takes place in collaboration with the Grafschaft Bentheim district and municipal archive and is aimed at people from the Emsland and Grafschaft Bentheim districts.

The aim of the workshop is clear: participants should gain a comprehensive overview of the various sources and data collections that are now easily accessible online. In the past it was necessary to make laborious inquiries to registry offices, parishes or archives. Thanks to digitalization, numerous local family books and genealogical data are now conveniently available on your own computer.

Practical exercises and more

In addition to the theoretical content, the workshop will also include practical research exercises. In addition, various genealogy portals are presented through which participants can search for data independently. A tip for all participants: Bring a notebook or tablet so you can put what you have learned into practice straight away!

Participation in the workshop is free, but places are limited. Anyone interested should register by phone or email by Wednesday, November 12th at the latest. And for everyone who cannot take part in the event: A repeat of the workshop is already planned for January 23, 2026 in the Alte Kirchschule in Schüttorf.

The importance of family research

Family research is becoming increasingly popular, and there are reasons for that. Many people want to find out more about their ancestors and their origins. Access to the right information can be crucial. As digitalization advances, building a family tree or uncovering family secrets is becoming easier than ever. The multitude of online sources today makes it possible to discover stories from your own family that may have deep roots in the past.
