Friesland invests: 50 new apartments planned for Wangerooge!

In an important step towards creating urgently needed living space in Friesland, Wohnungsbau Friesland recently decided to build 50 new apartments, including projects on Wangerooge. The board presented this comprehensive plan during the shareholders' meeting, which was chaired by District Administrator Sven Ambrosy. Managing director Jörg Tantzen also presented the current annual report.

The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of ten residential units on Siedlerstrasse on Wangerooge has already taken place. These new living spaces are part of a larger new construction program that was launched in 2016 and has been continued since then. What is important for these projects is that they are all publicly funded and the apartments are offered at a price per square meter of 7.30 euros. This makes them particularly attractive for tenants looking for affordable housing.

Growing stocks and constantly new projects

Wohnungsbau Friesland can look back on an impressive portfolio of almost 1,500 apartments, including four administrative buildings. In recent years, 148 new rental apartments have been built, with a further 30 currently under construction. New building projects in Jever (20 apartments), Varel (20 apartments) and Schortens (10 apartments) are also currently on the agenda. In Schortens in particular, it is being examined whether a larger volume of construction projects can be realized.

But building new apartments is not the only thing on the agenda. Maintaining and modernizing existing apartments is also a top priority. In the last financial year, 2.83 million euros were spent on maintaining and improving the standard of living.

Wangerooge as new shareholder

An interesting aspect of this development is the inclusion of Wangerooge as the 11th shareholder in the housing association, which was formally completed by a notary. Neighbors can enjoy a competing project built nearby in 2021 that functions as an identical apartment building. Such projects are not only important for alleviating the housing shortage, but they also bring a breath of fresh air into the cityscape and promote urban development.

Housing construction has already been recognized in the past as a social task of the state that is necessary to counteract the ongoing housing shortage. This is particularly true in times of population growth and urbanization, which have a major impact on the housing market. The role of housing associations is crucial in creating affordable housing while maintaining the social fabric of communities.

The Wohnungsbau Friesland initiative shows that active action is necessary to overcome challenges in the area of housing construction. The focus on publicly funded projects not only responds to existing needs, but also creates the basis for a sustainable and livable environment. This type of planning, accompanied by an attractive rental price, makes Wohnungsbau Friesland a pioneer in regional housing construction.

The developments and plans in Wohnungsbau Friesland are a prime example of how housing construction can have a lasting impact on local social and economic life. Anyone who lives here on Wangerooge or in Friesland can look forward to an exciting time.
