Jazz Academy in Jever: New era with concerts and workshops starts!
The Jazz Academy on the North Sea is entering its eighth round! The event began on Sunday, July 20, 2025 in the beautiful city of Jever and brings a bit of jazzy momentum to the region. For the first time, the academy is no longer organized by the Friesland district, but is under the umbrella of a newly founded non-profit organization - the Jazzakademie an der Nordsee e.V. NWZonline reports that Martin Dehrendorf holds the reins as managing director and chairman.
The entire campaign will take place until July 25, 2025 and offers a colorful mix of workshops and concerts. These take place in the historic Graf Anton Günther Hall in Jever Town Hall. The program offers something for everyone, whether jazz lovers or active musicians. Anyone who wants to experience the sound of the lecturers' concert on July 23, 2025 pays 25 euros entry (10 euros for those under 30), while there is no entry fee for the other events, such as the jam session and the final concert on Friday. The Jade Weser newspaper describes the concert as a unique opportunity under the direction of Klaus Ignatzek, the academy's artistic director and pianist.
A top-class team
To support the program, a powerful team of teachers has been put together to introduce participants to the sounds and intricacies of jazz. The lecturers include, among others:
- Klaus Ignatzek (Piano)
- Susanne Menzel (Gesang)
- Sven Faller (Bass)
- Christian Schoenefeldt (Schlagzeug)
- Florian Trübsbach (Saxophon)
These talented musicians have earned an excellent reputation and bring not only their high level of competence but also their passion for jazz. It's no wonder that the academy is hoping for participants from various countries, including Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, England and even Nigeria. Over the past seven years, the event has established itself as an excellent training format for musicians.
An investment in the region
In order to set up the varied program, financial resources are necessary. According to NWZonline, the academy needs grants totaling 20,000 euros, which are provided by the Friesland district, the city of Jever, the NDR music funding and the Oldenburg landscape. Each partner contributes around 5,000 euros to strengthen jazz culture in the region. The commitment aims to establish Friesland as a center of jazz and to offer culture in the northwest a platform.
The bottom line is clear: The Jazz Academy on the North Sea is not just an event - it is a cultural highlight that brings young and old together and opens the gates to the world of jazz music. It will be exciting to see how the academy develops in the coming years and what impact it will have on the local music scene.
