New construction of the Sillenstede gymnasium: Save and build, that's how it works!

Exciting developments are in the air in Sillenstede. The new gymnasium, which is to be built at the current location, sets new standards in village development. As the NWZ Online reported, the decision was made not to build the gymnasium on the adjacent parking lot, which saves costs and effort. This shows that you have a good hand in planning and want to use the existing infrastructure. However, the final decision is still pending and will be discussed at the meeting of the specialist committees on August 21st. This takes place publicly in the mill barn in Accum, which encourages citizens to contribute their voices.

With a cost framework of around 3.0 million euros, instead of the originally estimated 3.5 million euros, a new building is planned that can be realized through savings in earthworks and the elimination of the need for additional parking spaces. The city of Schortens also receives 1.4 million euros from federal and state funding, which makes things a little easier. The new hall is planned to be completed by 2028, although the old gymnasium will not be demolished until 2026.

Village development in focus

But it's not just the gym that is the focus of interest. At a meeting attended by Mayor Gerhard Böhling and around 50 citizens on November 29th, Hinrich Neumann presented concept ideas for village development. The new working group, consisting of members of the citizens' association, the TUS Sillenstede and other representatives of the village community, developed strategic proposals. As the Sillenstede village community As explained, the topics of the new village development are not only focused on the gym and the sports field, but also consider the needs of the daycare center and other community concerns.

A sports field that can be used all year round and is 40 cm thick costs around 500,000 euros plus 30,000 euros annually for maintenance. This shows that, in addition to the sports infrastructure, the expansion of local heating supplies with renewable energies is also being considered, which would further improve the local energy supply.

Promotion and support

The framework for these measures is provided by the “village development plan”, which the city administration is supposed to create for all districts. The promotion of rural areas is a high priority, as is the case BMLE explained. Measures to create community facilities and improve local amenities are high on the agenda. After the loss of the local general store, there is also a need for additional shopping options, which directly affects the quality of life of the villagers.

The planned projects show that the village community in Sillenstede is actively working on its own future. Youth work does not fall by the wayside either, as a meeting place for young people is also sought. The discussions about traffic, cycle paths and bus connections are another step in the right direction. Mayor Böhling is pleased with the creative ideas and is prepared to examine their implementation more closely in the coming months.

It remains to be hoped that the decision-makers will make a positive decision for the gym at the council meeting on September 24th and that further development steps will be taken quickly. Sillenstede has the power to sail along a promising path to new shores.
