New first aid building at the Zetel natural outdoor pool: safety first!

Exciting developments are coming up in sunny Zetel that are intended to improve safety and rescue options in the popular natural outdoor pool. The local councilor Gerrit Norder has submitted an application to optimize the water rescue infrastructure and first aid services at the natural outdoor pool. The outdoor pool attracts large numbers of visitors, especially in summer, and it is high time to increase safety standards here.

A central element of the application is the creation of a new first aid room close to the shore. This could be realized as a new building or in the form of a container solution. “We can’t just carry injured people up the stairs,” emphasizes Norder, who is himself the pool operations manager at the Bockhorn adventure pool. With the planned improvement of rescue options, he addresses an important concern: the current first aid station has long and arduous rescue routes that are not ideal in emergencies. Therefore, the new building on the ground floor will be equipped with, among other things, a roof terrace for a better overview.

Modernization for more security

In order to support the DLRG's volunteer lifeguards, a comprehensive loudspeaker system is also being planned, which will enable better communication within the outdoor pool. The current solution with a megaphone may not be sufficient given the large number of visitors.

The municipality has already held discussions with the DLRG about creating a medical room. The possibility of a container solution was discussed, but the optical concerns should not be neglected. Norder's proposal therefore calls for the construction of an attractive new building that, in addition to the first aid room, should also house at least two hot water showers.

Regulations for first aid rooms

German labor law also has clear regulations for first aid rooms in larger companies. Companies with more than 1,000 insured people must have such a room available. For companies with more than 100 insured people, this is only necessary if the circumstances - such as the type, severity and number of accidents - require it. Construction sites with more than 50 insured people also fall under this regulation. These regulations are based on Section 25 Paragraph 4 DGUV Regulation 1 and are specified by the DGUV in relevant information, which also contains examples of how to equip such rooms.

The Zetel local council voted unanimously for Norder's application, which underlines the urgency and broad support for the measures. The ideas and improvements should be included in the upcoming budget consultation. If the decision is positive, the safety standards in the natural outdoor pool could be raised significantly, which would not only benefit the visitors but also the active members of the DLRG.
