Closure between Lüder and Wentorf: Hunt announced for November 8th!
On Saturday, November 8th, there will be a complete closure of the road between Lüder and Wentorf in the Lüder, Wierstorf, Wentorf and Elbeseitenkanal areas. The Unterlüß Forestry Office conducts a hunt on this day aimed at regulating game populations, especially wild boars.
The closure is necessary to avoid accidents involving game or hunting dogs and will apply between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Bypassing is possible via the surrounding Gannerwinkel, Stöcken and Langenbrügge routes. Forest visitors are asked to visit alternative forest areas on this day.
Background on hunting and the wild boar epidemic
The purpose of hunting is not only to regulate game populations, but also to counteract the spread of African swine fever (ASF). The Friedrich Loeffler Institute and the German Hunting Association have developed measures to combat the animal disease. ASF is an often fatal disease for wild and domestic pigs and was most recently detected in the Czech Republic, about 350 kilometers from the German border.
To prevent the spread of ASF, targeted measures are essential. These include, among other things, hygienic precautions and reducing the wild boar population. There is currently no vaccine in sight, which is why prevention is particularly important.
The current recommendations emphasize the need for rapid control of the wild boar population and cooperation between authorities, hunters and farmers to manage the situation efficiently.
The hunt on November 8th is therefore part of this comprehensive strategy, which serves both to regulate game populations and to protect local agriculture.
