Göttingen Schützenfest 2025: Music, tradition and lots of fun!

The Göttingen Schützenfest, which is celebrating its 633rd edition this year, is just around the corner and promises an exciting spectacle for all citizens and visitors. This traditional citizens' and shooting festival, which will feature music, theater and sporting activities, will take place in the parking lot at the Jahnstadion from June 19th to 23rd, 2025. A newly designed program will be presented that aims to appeal to a broader audience, such as Göttinger Tageblatt reported.

On Thursday, June 19th, the festival starts with a musical evening under the motto “Now the clock strikes 13!” and brings together the talented ensembles of theGerman theater(DT) and desYoung Theater(JT) on stage. Tobias Sosinka, managing director of the JT, has already confirmed the participation of his theater colleagues. At 7.30 p.m. the JT will perform in the marquee at the Jahnstadion, followed by the DT band “Blühende Landschaften”. Both theaters each present around ten songs from their current productions, which could immerse visitors in an atmospheric atmosphere.

Festivities and program highlights

Friday is family day in the festival tent, and the JT is bringing the children's and family play "Elmar" to the stage three times - ideal for the little festival visitors. But the Schützenfest has much more to offer: a concert by the AdeBar fire department band at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Old Town Hall will complement the musical program. At 6:30 p.m. the riflemen then march to the festival tent, where the commercial evening with the royal proclamation takes place.

On Saturday there will be a big hit party with live music from artists like Nadine Fabielle and Jörg Schütze, accompanied by Jens Seidler as moderator. The highlight of the festival is the big shooting parade on Sunday, June 22nd, which will move through the city center at 2 p.m. and will be supported for the first time by numerous sports clubs. Young talents such as up-and-coming showman Charles Recke also provide culinary highlights: his malt roll with crusty roast and a specially developed sauce is likely to be well received by festival visitors.

Shooting traditions and outlook

The history of shooting festivals in Germany is rich, with over 15,000 shooting clubs that uphold tradition and community. When choosing the new shooting kings, shooting competitions and festive parades are central elements that shape the character of these festivals, as the platform alle-schuetzenvereine.de explains. After a festive program, there are also numerous rides and attractions available in Göttingen, including an impressive 20-meter Ferris wheel and rare delicacies from local suppliers.

The Göttingen Schützenfest 2025 promises to be an event full of joy, tradition and community. The festival traditionally ends on Monday, June 23rd, with a shooting breakfast, at which representatives from politics and business will take the floor. A festival that not only honors the shooting clubs, but also invites all citizens and visitors to celebrate together and experience the culture of Göttingen.
