Horrible accident in Hameln: BMW races through the night at 170 km/h!
On the night of November 9, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident on Ohsener Landstrasse in Hameln, which kept the emergency services on site on tenterhooks. A BMW occupied by two people lost control and caused significant damage. According to Dewezet, the vehicle demolished iron posts over 30 meters long and damaged a beech hedge before it came to a standstill. Witnesses reported that the BMW rushed past at a speed of “certainly 170 km/h”. Needless to say, action had to be taken quickly.
The police accuse the 21-year-old driver from Emmerthal of “inappropriate speed”. The circumstances of the accident were anything but ideal: it was dark, drizzling and the road was covered with wet leaves. Such weather conditions are known to increase the frequency of accidents, as ADAC has found in its statistics.
Emergency forces in constant use
The rescue workers were quickly on site. An emergency medical team and two ambulances took care of the injured - the driver and his 20-year-old passenger from Nienburg. Both were taken to hospital where they received medical treatment. Firefighters also had the task of illuminating the scene of the accident and removing the damaged ball catch fence. The vehicle itself was so badly damaged that it probably only has scrap value.
The police secured the traces and reconstructed the course of the accident. The exact extent of the total damage is currently unknown, but it is clear that such accidents often have serious consequences. According to ADAC, more than 85% of traffic accidents in their database result in serious or fatal injuries, which underlines the urgency of accident research.
Preventive measures and road safety
The ADAC has been investigating the causes of serious traffic accidents since 2005 and taking measures to prevent accidents and reduce their consequences. Technology such as anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for motorcycles and the introduction of rescue cards are just a few of the successes of this research. Given the fact that country roads have the highest accident rate in Germany, raising awareness of safe driving is particularly important.
This is particularly relevant for motorcyclists, who have a four times higher risk of accidents compared to other vehicles, as this group accounts for over 20% of traffic fatalities in Germany. The study of pregnant car occupants also showed that there is no increased risk of injury compared to other occupants. These findings can help develop better safety precautions for different groups on the road.
Overall, the tragic incident in Hameln shows once again how important it is to drive carefully and adaptably, especially in adverse weather conditions. No good reason should lead to ignoring traffic safety. Continuous research and the resulting safety measures are crucial to minimizing such accidents in the future.
