Hannover Linden: Barrier-free stops are on the rise!

In Hanover-Linden, the barrier-free expansion of the stops on line 9 is on the agenda. How haz.de reported, many stops on line 9 are not yet accessible to everyone. The stops at Lindener Hafen and Bernhard-Caspar-Straße are particularly affected. Infra plans to expand these two stops by 2026, thereby improving access for everyone. The need for this expansion should not be underestimated, because of the planned total of 200 stops in the city, only 176 are equipped with elevated platforms.

The goal is clear: accessibility for all passengers. Four stops are still missing on line 9: Lindener Marktplatz, Nieschlagstrasse, Bernhard-Caspar-Strasse and Am Lindener Hafen. A comprehensive construction project is presented here, which is scheduled to begin in 2027. In addition to this project, work is also underway on Limmerstraße, where the construction of the Leinaustraße and Am Küchengarten elevated platforms is planned by the end of the decade. In order to initiate the planning approval process for these new stops, all parties involved are currently in coordination, reports infra-hannover.de.

Construction measures and their challenges

It is not only easy, but also necessary to coordinate light rail and bus traffic during construction. An investigation is therefore underway into whether these means of transport can perhaps even be stopped completely during the construction period. In this case, a replacement bus service would have to be set up for light rail lines 10 and 12 in order to maintain the connection. At the same time, the pedestrian zone remains accessible to pedestrians and delivery traffic, which is of great importance for residents and businesses.

As well as hannover.de emphasizes, the Hanover region will not remain idle. The city is investing around 2 million euros in making public transport accessible by converting a total of 18 bus stops in various parts of the city by 2024. It is important that every municipality has at least one barrier-free stop.

Financing and public participation

The financing applications for the expansion of the stops in the commercial area on Davenstedter Straße have already been submitted. This project envisages that the stops will have a 70 meter long medium-elevated platform. The financing plan is also an important step, because barrier-free access must be ensured within the framework of the Disability Equality Act. The measures are integrated in the long term and ensure that no one is disadvantaged in mobility.

The planning documents are publicly displayed so that citizens can raise objections. The discussion process to discuss the effects of the construction project with all those affected is also planned. These steps are essential to ensure that the interests of residents and business people are protected while at the same time the necessary expansion measures can be implemented.
