Motorway projects in Hamburg: CDU warns of lack of money and standstill!

There is a lot of turmoil in Hamburg's political landscape, and not without reason. Christoph Ploß, the CDU member of the Bundestag, does not do things by halves and warns urgently about the danger to numerous important motorway projects. He is particularly addressing the construction of the A26 East and the expansion of the A1 between Harburg and Moorfleet. The reason for these alarming prospects are the new financial plans of Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, which could put a stop to these projects. According to Ploß, these measures are no longer acceptable and he announces that he will take up the fight against this financial planning.

The pressure is growing, especially given that existing building permits could be at risk. The Bundestag will soon discuss the budget for 2026 and financial planning until 2029. Ploß points out that the federal government intends to take on over 850 billion euros in new debt from 2025 to 2029, which the Federal Audit Office criticizes as unsound economic policy. These concerns are not unfounded, as the dismantling of the B73 in Harburg and the construction of the A26-East are closely linked.

Politics and infrastructure in the crossfire

The CDU in Hamburg is alarmed. Philipp Heißner, the transport policy spokesman for the parliamentary group, also warns of the far-reaching consequences of medium-term financial planning up to 2029. He sees many important infrastructure projects that are of central importance for the economic development of northern Germany as being in acute danger. In particular, the A26-East and the expansion of the A1 are essential for commuters and Hamburg's economy.

It's not just the CDU that is expressing concern. The Hamburg SPD parliamentary group also reacts to Ploß' statements with incomprehension and objects that the criticism of the financial plans is not justified. This discussion could provide further fuel for the political debate, because it is ultimately about much more than just a motorway - it is about the economic future of the region.

Construction projects under pressure

What makes the situation even more explosive are the projects that are already underway or planned and could come to a standstill due to a lack of construction approval. These projects, such as closing the gap in the A39 and the further construction of the A20, have been in the planning stages for years and urgently need the light of construction approval. The demand for the Bundestag to take action and secure the transport infrastructure in northern Germany is becoming loud and clear.

In addition, Hamburg plans to launch a new alliance to overcome the upcoming challenges in the area of ​​construction and renovation projects. This initiative may become necessary as infrastructure operators are under increasing pressure to deliver their projects on time while at the same time managing the economic burden in the region.

The minister will finally present his budget in the Bundestag on September 24th - a date that will be of crucial importance for the future of North German infrastructure.
