Major fire in Drestedt: Fire brigade saves neighbors from the flames!

A dramatic fire caused a single-family home to go up in flames on Drestedter Tannenweg on Saturday afternoon. The alarm was raised due to a balcony fire, which quickly developed into a devastating fire. When the fire brigade arrived at around 1:30 p.m., the roof terrace was already fully ablaze and a gas bottle was threatening to burn out under pressure, making the situation extremely dangerous. Over 120 firefighters fought the flames, which quickly spread to the wooden facade of the house due to the strong wind and reached up to the roof. The situation was particularly threatening for the neighboring house, whose residents were able to get to safety in time.

The deputy local fire chief Daniel Boysen had to raise the alarm level in view of the dangerous situation. Together with several fire departments, including Appel, Regesbostel and the turntable ladder from Buchholz, a massive operation was organized, which ultimately succeeded in preventing the flames from spreading to the neighboring house with the help of a bolt position. Nevertheless, the flames penetrated into the roof structure and the upper floor of the affected house. In order to extinguish the embers, the roof had to be opened using the turntable ladder; Walls and ceilings were opened using heavy breathing apparatus to fight the fire.

Further support and follow-up work

During the course of the operation, additional weirs from Sprötze, Elstorf and Halvesbostel were alerted. The Moisburg fire department set up a tent to decontaminate the emergency services, while the Hörsten fire department provided fresh breathing air bottles with a swap loader vehicle and a respiratory protection container. A food train from the district fire brigade also provided the necessary reinforcement for the firefighters on site. The extinguishing work continued into the evening hours, while the police have already started investigating the cause of the fire.

Protection of the environment and preventive measures

Such incidents highlight the importance of fire safety measures and the need to always keep an eye on sources of danger. Even though the worst of this fire was prevented, it is a harsh wake-up call for everyone. The support at the locations proves once again how solidarity the community behaves in such crisis situations and how important it is to react quickly. However, the question still remains as to the cause of the fire and what the neighbors can learn from this incident in order to avoid similar outbreaks in the future.

Everyone should know about the fire protection measures in their own home in order to prevent potential dangers.
