Harburg celebrates diversity: A festival of encounters and community!
Today, on July 6, 2025, Harburg's town hall square is shining in bright colors: At the event “Harburg celebrates diversity” from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., almost 40 clubs and initiatives will come together to celebrate the big topic of inclusion, integration and diversity. The managing director of Harburg Marketing, Antonia Marmon, emphasizes that this diversity in Harburg is not just a concept, but a lived reality. The aim of the festival is to create a day full of joy, encounters and shared experiences for everyone.
Around 50 initiatives are involved, including organizations from the areas of culture, sport, education as well as the fire brigade and police. There is a colorful program for visitors with numerous free offers for all age groups. There's something especially for the little ones: bouncy castles, face painting and even the opportunity to sit in a fire engine promise an entertaining experience. More adult visitors can try out small tasks by test-driving a cargo bike or doing a stamp run.
A varied stage program
The stage program offers something for everyone. The Black Mountain Square Dancers Hamburg-Harburg and the cheerleaders of the Harburger Turnerbund (HTB) ensure lively performances. The HipHop Academy Hamburg also brings movement to the stage. Especially for the youngest children, there is the children's musical “Inspector Horse”, which teaches safety-relevant behavior in a playful way. If you missed it, there is no need to worry: the entire program will be translated into German sign language so that everyone can celebrate.
A highlight will be the awarding of the SiKo Prize on stage at 1:40 p.m. This prize, worth 1,000 euros, is awarded for special personal commitment to safety and cleanliness in the Harburg district. A total of twelve applications were submitted for this – a nice recognition for everyone who volunteers!
Fine delicacies for your physical well-being
Small stands with sausages and sweet and savory delicacies ensure your physical well-being. Coffee and tea are available for a donation, while free drinking water is available. Visitors are invited to bring their own drinking bottles in order to save the cup deposit. This event is financed by the Security Conference Harburg (SiKo) and the local partnerships for democracy Harburg and Süderelbe, which are part of the federal program Living Democracy! Support projects.
The “Harburg celebrates diversity” festival is also an expression of the nationwide effort to promote diversity in society. With its diversity strategy, the federal government is pursuing clear goals to recognize cultural differences and create positive coexistence. Under the motto “For more diversity” we are working on this appreciative attitude in many areas, including administration.
Such a festival, which promotes encounters and dialogue, is a step in the right direction. It shows the commitment and vitality of Harburg, which is clearly committed to diversity and wants to send a strong signal of cohesion. Here, togetherness is not just a word, but is actively lived.
For anyone who has time today, a visit to the town hall square is worth it, because Harburg shows how beautiful diversity can be!
