Renovation of the Canteleu Bridge: Restrictions in Buchholz from July!
There will soon be exciting changes in Buchholz: From July 3, 2025, the Canteleu Bridge on Kreisstraße 28 will be extensively renovated. This measure, which is scheduled to be completed by August 13th, is based on the need to replace the steel transition structure in the roadway area. The work is being carried out by the special construction company Maurer from Lünen and costs around 290,000 euros, as landkreis-harburg.de reports.
The renovation will be carried out in two phases and will involve half-closure of the bridge. This not only means an adjustment to the traffic flow, but also impacts on local public transport. The “Bahnhofstrasse” bus stop will not be served during the work, and the “Canteleubrücke” stop will also not be available due to the construction site area. The Harburg district asks for your understanding for possible traffic disruptions during the construction period. Current information about the timetables can be found on kvg-bus.de and buchholz-bus.de.
Bridges in Germany – A necessary topic
The project in Buchholz fits into a much larger context. According to tagesschau.de, around 10,000 bridges in Germany are in need of renovation. A “bridge summit” was convened to take measures to accelerate bridge renovation, as the renovation backlog has enormous economic consequences. Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing is already fighting to increase funding for bridge modernization in order to secure the infrastructure in Germany in the long term.
The measure at the Canteleu Bridge clearly shows how important it is to be proactive about the maintenance of traffic routes. While other bridges such as the Rahmedetal Bridge in Lüdenscheid have been a renovation problem for years, smaller projects such as in Buchholz attempt to ensure sustainable traffic and guarantee the safety of passengers.
In the coming period, the residents of Buch should adapt their routes and adapt to the new circumstances. Ultimately, it is a step towards safer and better transport infrastructure. Together we take on the challenge and ensure that Buchholz continues to be a good place to live.
