Heavy transport of the Airbus A310: Hodenhagen's new eye-catcher in the Serengeti Park!

The heavy transport of an Airbus A310 from Hanover Airport to the Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen recently caused a stir and required a lot of planning and skill. The responsible company, Gruber Logistics, moved the decommissioned fuselage of the aircraft over four days and encountered numerous challenges that were meticulously thought through in advance. The transport took place on the nights of October 26th to 29th, 2025 and required an engineering masterpiece, as the route of around 50 kilometers led through a nature reserve, which entailed numerous protective measures.

What makes such an operation so special? Over 110 tons had to be moved, often at walking speed. An individually configured module-axle-trailer combination was used, supported by two powerful 8×4 tractors from the Universal Transport fleet. In addition, traffic signs, traffic lights and lighting systems had to be dismantled, while arborists carefully secured the trees along the route.

Enfemo: The Masters of Preparation

The Enfemo company, based in Hodenhagen and Häuslingen, played a crucial role in preparing the transport. Managing director Arnd Helberg accompanied the transport over several days and ensured that everything went smoothly. The creation of the front and rear transport racks was an extremely complex process, involving more than 8,000 kilograms of steel in meticulous fabrication. These frames were manufactured in three weeks using lasers, sawing, machining and welding and then checked with millimeter precision at Enfemo.

But that's not all: the rear frame was also produced in Hodenhagen, where over 5,000 kilograms of steel were processed in two weeks. Enfemo showed a good hand by producing the additional components required within a few hours in order to optimally connect the frames to the Airbus. The close exchange with the company ESAC Engineering & Aerospace was of great importance. This specialist company assembled the aircraft and implemented the front transport frame, which required precise collaboration.

Visions of the future in Serengeti Park

The wings of the Airbus A310 have been on display in Serengeti Park since autumn 2023 and will serve as a restaurant from summer 2026. The Airbus, which was previously part of the Federal Ministry of Defense's flight readiness, will then be part of a unique gastronomic experience for visitors. The aviation industry is facing the challenge of making global air travel more efficient and reliable, with the Airbus Global Services Forecast predicting growing demand for services, with the global aircraft fleet nearly doubling by 2044. During this time, airlines will also increasingly rely on new solutions to connect people and goods, as Airbus emphasizes.

Overall, this impressive transport shows how finely tuned logistics and engineering go hand in hand to realize such extraordinary projects. The collaborative efforts of Gruber Logistics and Enfemo are a prime example of meeting challenges with innovative solutions and turning a disused aircraft into a new experience in the Serengeti Park.

For the region around Hodenhagen, this could not only be a tourist attraction, but also a showcase for the combined creativity and dynamism of the companies. The Airbus A310 is more than just an aircraft - it becomes part of a new story that is just beginning.
