A2 open again: traffic jams and heat strokes after repair work!
On Monday morning, June 23, 2025, the A2 motorway between Marienborn/Helmstedt and Eilsleben in the direction of Magdeburg was reopened to traffic. The route had been closed the previous Sunday due to short-term repair work, which led to significant disruptions. The Eilsleben and Alleringersleben junctions, which were also part of the diversions, were particularly affected. Drivers had to sit in traffic jams for hours while traffic was diverted along federal highways. Helpers provided many travelers on the B1 near Helmstedt with water as the temperatures were high and several road users had circulatory problems that required treatment.
Autobahn-GmbH reported significant road damage that had to be repaired before the start of the summer holidays in Saxony-Anhalt. This urgent work made the closure necessary, which lasted until the evening hours. Traffic jams on the highways are particularly an issue during the holiday season, as drivers often tend to drive on tight roads, which can lead to a so-called accordion effect.

On the A2 between Magdeburg and Braunschweig, however, all lanes had already been cleared at 10:46 a.m., as the current status shows. There were also minor visibility obstructions due to smoke on the route between Brandenburg and Wollin, which were reported at 11:26 a.m.Traffic forecasts and tips
