Herberts Farm: Rescue dogs are looking for a loving home!

In the Helmstedt district, more precisely at Herberts Farm, Wiebke and Annika put their heart and soul into offering the weakest members of our society a second home. Not only pigs, goats, chickens, cats, geese and dogs live here, but above all old and sick animals that have been rescued from difficult circumstances. The operators focus specifically on dogs, who often come from overwhelming private households and have often experienced anything but a carefree life. Sarah and Bobby in particular, focused on working together on the farm, are currently looking for a loving home where they can experience the affection and security that has so far been denied them.

Anna and Wiebke reported that rescuing these two dogs from an abusive environment was emotionally challenging for them. "It's intense. There's always a lot going on here," they say. Despite the care they receive on the farm, the dogs are still afraid of certain noises and objects. But patience and individual care definitely show improvements in their behavior. However, finding a new home is difficult because both Bobby and Sarah don't get along particularly well with other animals.

A place for dogs with a history

The Herberts Farm concept is not unique in Germany. Increasingly, sanctuaries are emerging that are dedicated to animal protection. Living farms, such as the planned Pfotenfreude living farm, not only offer a safe home for old dogs, those who are difficult to place or those with disabilities, but also want to create meeting places. The animals should be able to arrive here as they are, and at the same time there should be education about animal protection and sustainable animal husbandry. Animal-supported projects are planned in the long term to open up new perspectives for both animals and people. At the moment, however, the Lebenshof is still in the planning phase and the association is calling for support so that this vision can soon become reality.

According to an overview provided by haustiere-aktuell.de, sanctuaries are the key to improved treatment of animals. Not only do these places provide a lifetime home, but they also avoid commercial use. The focus here is on the needs of the animals - they receive species-appropriate husbandry and comprehensive medical care. Especially in times when awareness of animal protection is constantly increasing, these sanctuaries are becoming increasingly important and make a valuable contribution to raising public awareness.

A call for help

While many farms live from donations and support, Herberts Farm also faces the challenge of covering a wide range of costs for food, maintenance and medical care. “We are really grateful for every support,” says Wiebke. In particular, the search for a new home for Sarah and Bobby plays an important role. So if you have a good hand for animals and are ready to give these two loving dogs a real home, don't hesitate to get in touch with the operators via Facebook. Because as the saying goes: “There’s something going on”!

Herberts Farm remains an important link between people and animals and reminds us that even the weakest among us deserve a loving home. You can find more information about the farm at news38.de and about the planned farm at pfotenfreudefriends.de.
