Traffic controls in Bad Salzdetfurth: Drunk driving in focus!

The weekend was anything but quiet for the police in the area of responsibility of the Bad Salzdetfurth police commissioner. As part of several traffic controls that took place from June 13th to 14th, 2025, a large number of violations of the alcohol limit were discovered. The checks not only led to an intensive review of driving behavior, but also to an impressive array of measures.

On Friday evening at 10:23 p.m., a 52-year-old cyclist was checked on the main street in Heinde. The breath alcohol test exceeded all limits and showed a shocking 2.19 per mille. A blood sample was ordered to preserve evidence and he was understandably forbidden from continuing his journey.

Drunk driving – dangers and consequences

The dangers of consuming alcohol on the road are undisputed. As the ADAC explains on its website, alcohol not only endangers the safety of other road users, but can also have dramatic consequences for your own driving license. For novice drivers and people under the age of 21, a 0.0 per mille limit applies, while from 0.3 per mille it is considered relative inability to drive. Serious consequences threaten from 0.5 per mille, where a first-time violation can result in a fine of 500 euros and two points in the driving fitness register.

Another incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at 2:40 a.m. A 23-year-old from Hildesheim was stopped on Soltmannstrasse after he drove his car in serpentine lines. His breath alcohol test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.98 and there were also signs of previous cannabis use. Here, too, the blood sample was taken and the driver's license had to be handed in immediately.

Controls are having an effect

During the course of Saturday, around 9 p.m., an 18-year-old from Lamspringe was caught driving a moped without a valid driver's license. He was also banned from continuing to drive and criminal proceedings were initiated for driving without a license. These controls make it clear how seriously the issue of road safety is taken.

The reports of such incidents are not only alarming but also deserve our full attention. The Federal Center for Health Education points out that a blood alcohol level of 1.0‰ means that there is 1 milliliter of alcohol in 1,000 milliliters of blood. On top of that, blood alcohol levels vary depending on gender and body weight, so it is crucial for every driver to act responsibly.

The reality is often different, and during the controls it becomes clear that many people underestimate the risks of drunk driving. Anyone who thinks that a beer before driving is no problem is very much mistaken - after all, the penalties for violations are high: in addition to fines, driver's licenses can also be revoked and suspension periods are at stake.

It remains to be hoped that such traffic controls will continue to be carried out and increase road safety in our region. As the ADAC emphasizes, the safest way to consider your health and that of other road users is simply to avoid alcohol when you get behind the wheel.
