Swimming fun in biathlon: Bad Pyrmont's first championship without snow!
On June 28, 2025, there was a lot of activity at Brunnenplatz in Bad Pyrmont, where the 1st district biathlon relay championship took place. This exciting event was part of the well-known Biathlon Germany Tour, which has been held worldwide since 2015. Over 100,000 trial shooters and around 20,000 competitors gathered during the stages to take part in this sporting highlight. Their motto was: “Everyone can become a biathlete for one day for free” and thus offered a wonderful opportunity for everyone to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of biathlon, as lokalquelle.de reports.
The event started at 11:00 a.m. and, in addition to the competition, also offered the opportunity for practice shooting until 2:00 p.m. The Hameln-Pyrmont district sports association was the organizer and delighted the participants with a mobile biathlon arena in which the original biathlon rifles including infrared technology were available. And what a spectacle it was! The final biathlon relay championship began at 2 p.m., with a total of nine teams competing against each other.
Competitive atmosphere and exciting competitions
The relays consisted of four participants, each of whom had to sprint 400 meters (300 meters for women) and then fire five shots. For each missed shot there was a time penalty of 15 seconds. Nevertheless, the athletes didn't shy away because they not only had fun competing, but also had the opportunity to win trophies, medals and surprise prizes. In particular, the deputy chairman of the district sports association, Rudolf Dreischer, led the event, while Martin Bremer led the day as a commentator.
The “TV Deutsche Eiche Holzminden” team prevailed in a thrilling competition and secured first place. The individual winner Lena Timmermann stood out with her performance - she scored five goals from five shots. And the other teams also gave their best: The Hameln All Blacks, with tennis player Sarah Schwarz in their ranks, took second place, followed by the “Triathlon goes Biathlon” team from ESV Eintracht Hameln in third place [dewezet.de].
Positive feedback from participants
Although the concept of biathlon without artificial snow was new territory for many participants, they were consistently positive. The atmosphere was one of fun and community, and both spectators and participants found the event entertaining. The Biathlon Germany Tour aims to promote interest in this sport and to reach a broad base of interested parties through offers such as practice shooting. It remains exciting to see how this series of events will develop in the future and which talents can still be discovered.
