Millions of speed cameras for Holzminden: This is how much the district earns with HOLGA!

The mobile speed camera trailer “HOLGA” is causing a stir in the Holzminden district. Since it was put into operation in mid-2023, the semi-stationary speed measuring system has caused quite a stir - not only because it recorded numerous speeding violations, but also because it has brought a considerable sum into the district's coffers. A total of 428,808.65 euros in fines and warnings were recorded in 2024, with around 262,000 euros being fines and around 166,000 euros being warnings, as the website Holzminden-News reports.

But how do you decide where “HOLGA” is used? The district has set strict criteria for the selection of measuring points. The focus is on areas with frequent accidents and increased risk potential. Information from the public about problematic traffic situations also plays an important role. The road traffic office takes care of checking the suitability and necessity of the measuring locations so that citizens can actively help shape road safety. In total, “HOLGA” was in use for 330 days and served 36 different measuring points, which shows that it has a good knack for avoiding accidents. My online newspaper points out that the result of the speed monitoring consists, among other things, of 5,755 speeding violations and 3,248 fine notices issued.

The big business with speed camera fees

What are the specific figures that “HOLGA” brought to the district? The district was able to generate 380,808.50 euros from the mobile speed camera trailer alone. In comparison, a further 201,902.49 euros came from permanently installed systems. It is noticeable that the income from “HOLGA” rose to over 428,000 euros in 2024, while the number of violations measured in the same year was 6,234, twice as much as in 2023, in which the speed camera system was only used from June.

The majority of the registered violations came from the communities of Hehlen, Eimen and Amelungsborn. According to the current evaluation by Mein Online Zeitung, 3,892 violations were registered at stationary systems, while the mobile system recorded 5,755 speeding violations, which resulted in a strict “Look here!” on the part of the police. For particularly serious violations, such as an extremely fast driver who was speeding at 168 km/h on the B64, you can expect a fine of 900 euros and a two-month driving ban.

Technical challenges and advances

Technical problems? There were those too, but they were quickly remedied so that the functionality of the speed camera system was always guaranteed. Citizens can therefore be sure that the speed on their roads is constantly monitored. Traffic volume and speed must be constantly monitored to make traffic safer.

Overall, it shows that “HOLGA” is not only an effective means of improving traffic safety, but also represents a lucrative business for the Holzminden district. Those responsible seem to have found the right strategy to balance both security and financial resources.
