B 191: Dannenberg is entering a new construction phase - traffic changes starting today!
In Dannenberg, residents and road users are required to adapt to the upcoming changes in road traffic. The construction work on federal highway 191 has been causing a stir since the end of March 2023, and the third construction phase is now underway. This begins on June 19, 2025 and will again involve some diversions and adjustments. According to luechow-dannenberg.de this phase should start from the intersection B 191 / L 256 to run to the middle of the intersection B 191 / Riemannstrasse.
Anyone coming from Uelzen can take the B 191 to the B 191 / B 216 junction, but traffic from Dömitz will be diverted via the Breeser Weg intersection and Jeetzelallee. The same applies to the diversions from Dannenberg. There are also diversions available for road users from Gartow, which lead via the L 256 and Friedhofsweg to the B 191. Trucks over 7.5 tons from Gartow will be redirected via the K 29 to the B 191 in order to avoid the construction site. These diversions are clearly signposted for everyone to see, so that no one ends up on the wrong path.
A look at the construction phases
The current construction work is divided into two construction phases. The first construction phase began before the intersection of B 191/Friedhofsweg/Breese in the Marsch and ended before the intersection of B 191 / L 256 (Gartower Straße). This intersection is expected to remain partially accessible during the second construction phase, which will provide some relief for residents.
The second construction phase, on the other hand, extends from the L 256 intersection to the junction with the B 216. Among other things, the B 191/Prabstorfer Weg intersection is to be redesigned and the cycle path is to be renewed. In this phase, as in the first, inner-city diversions via Breeser Weg and Jeetzelallee are expected. Construction times and diversions are clearly defined in advance for all road users in order to make traffic as smooth as possible
Financial framework conditions
The costs for this extensive construction work amount to an impressive 4.65 million euros, which are borne by both the city of Dannenberg and the Federal Republic of Germany. The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan (BVWP) 2030, as presented by bmv.de, has brought this expansion to life in order to secure the transport infrastructure for the coming years and eliminate bottlenecks.
Construction work is expected to be completed by August 29, 2023 - although weather-related delays cannot be ruled out. The Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport has already asked for your understanding for the inconvenience of the construction sites. Separate press releases will be issued in a timely manner for the final construction phase so that everyone remains well informed. Until then, if in doubt, take a detour and pay close attention to the signposted paths!
