Graffiti attack at the train station: train driver seriously injured – witnesses wanted!
A worrying incident occurred at Buchholz train station in the Harburg district, which brought the federal police to the scene. A 51-year-old train driver was attacked by an unknown graffiti sprayer while she was on her way to catch one of her trains. She reportedly saw some fresh graffiti and went to pick up a black bag. At that moment she was pushed onto the track from behind and the perpetrator grabbed her bag. The suspected perpetrator fled towards a nearby parking garage. The train driver complained of back pain after the attack, underlining the seriousness of the incident. In order to find out more about the perpetrator, the federal police are now urgently looking for witnesses. The man being sought is described as being around 1.85 m tall and between 17 and 20 years old. He was wearing black clothing, including a hoodie, and was wearing a red mask. According to NDR concrete information to the police is very welcome.
But this is not the only incident that shows that violence at train stations is a serious problem. Another example from the Osnabrück district illustrates the worrying development: unknown people rioted at Bohmte train station and damaged numerous glass surfaces and lighting equipment. The damage caused between July 28 and 31, 2023 amounts to around 5,000 euros. The federal police have also initiated investigations into property damage here and are asking the public for information. Anyone interested can find out more about this on Presseportal.
The location of the physical injuries
The incidents highlight a broader problem: the increasing number of physical injuries in Germany. Figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office show that recorded cases of bodily harm are continuously increasing. According to a publication by Statista The statistics on violent crime in Germany from 2014 to 2024 were equally worrying and outline the problems in the areas of homicide, rape, robbery and domestic violence.
The events at Buchholz train station and the vandalism in Bohmte are an expression of a larger social problem. The police appeal to the public to be vigilant and, if in doubt, to help in order to prevent such incidents. Together we can make our train stations and cities safer and counteract such riots.
