Lüneburg's Christmas markets: A festival of lights and traditions!

The anticipation of the contemplative days is growing in Lüneburg, a city with over 1000 years of history and a charming ambience. With around 78,000 inhabitants, picturesque streets and historic brick buildings, Lüneburg strives to win the hearts of visitors not only as a salt and Hanseatic town, but also as a Christmas town. Preparations for the festive season are in full swing: Lüneburg will soon be transformed into a sparkling winter fairy tale.

This year the city presents a total of 14 Christmas markets, stretching along its romantic squares and between Gothic churches. Among the new features is a fresh meeting point at the Ratsmühle, close to the water tower, which warmly welcomes visitors. Some markets, like the Winter Magic at Bergström, have already opened their doors, while relatives and friendly faces bring the markets to life.

Festive atmosphere and culinary delicacies

The opening ceremony of the largest and oldest Christmas market in the city will take place on Wednesday, November 26th at 6 p.m. at the town hall. Here the historic old town will shine in lights, accompanied by the intoxicating scent of fir green, roasted almonds and tasty mulled wine. The latter is offered in special cups with motifs from the Salt City, which contribute to the cozy atmosphere of the markets.

Mayor Claudia Kalisch calls on all citizens to support the businesses in the city center. After all, this time is important not only for enjoyment, but also for trading. The city administration collected around 10,000 euros through donations for the festive lighting, which was partially financed with an impressive total budget of 71,000 euros from the funding program for resilient inner cities.

Diverse attractions for young and old

For the little visitors there will be a crispy house on the fourth Sunday of Advent, where craft fun and treats await the children. In addition, Burkhard Schmeer will perform an unconventional Christmas fairy tale that will certainly provide many wonderful memories. Musical accompaniment can also be heard at the market on all Advent Sundays - a perfect opportunity to enjoy the festive atmosphere to the fullest.
