Sparkasse Lüneburg: Reconstruction of the old town branch starts with a crane and excavator!
Something is happening in Cologne: the extensive renovation of the Sparkasse's headquarters is gaining momentum, and building history is being written with a crane in the inner courtyard between An der Münze and Schwertstraße. An 18-ton excavator is breaking the old material out of the walls, while project manager Angela Meyer reports on an optimal schedule. The clearing out of the interior began in August and the materials are carefully collected and disposed of separately. The focus of the next work will be on the facade of the building, which will shape the redesigns in the coming years. Lueneburg current reports that the savings bank plans to reopen its headquarters in 2027, and the entire project is estimated to cost a whopping 25 million euros.
Sparkasse Köln is also committed to creating a sustainable, inviting environment for its customers. The ground floor will serve as a forum for information events, while advice islands will be set up for online banking topics. In addition, the real estate center returns to the headquarters to offer customers an expanded service. The new customer hall with a glass roof, which impresses with inner courtyards with a view of the sky and is intended to create a relaxed atmosphere, will be particularly exciting.
Investment priorities and construction projects
In addition to the renovation in Cologne, the Sparkasse is also showing commitment in Wunstorf. There, Sparkasse Hannover will invest 20 million euros in the new building on the market square. The plans call for demolishing the existing building, which has been in use since 1980, while leaving the basement level. The new building, for which the Bremen architect Westphal is responsible, is expected to cost 18 million euros and is expected to begin in 2026. During the construction phase, three alternative accommodations will be available nearby to maintain service. The old building at Lange Straße 2 will remain open until November 2025, while Lange Straße 9 will close in July for renovations. In November 2025, new rooms will be available in the building at Südstraße 9. Auepost emphasizes that the new building should meet the requirements of today and that the old, old building does not make economic sense for conversion. The opening of the new advice center is planned for the second half of 2028.
The Sparkasse not only offers its own construction projects, but also interesting opportunities for investing in real estate. Instead of simply waiting, those interested can invest in new construction projects, with a variety of options available. From financing your own home to closed and open real estate funds, investments offer a wide range for investors. Sparkasse Real Estate provides information about the various options that can also be considered as retirement plans, but must be chosen carefully as they can involve risks.
The solid renovation of the Sparkasse in Cologne and the investments in Wunstorf demonstrate the clear course that the savings banks are setting. With a combination of tradition and modernity, the aim is to continue to offer customers all services in attractive and functional rooms in the future. The course has been set for a successful future - now we just have to wait and see how the projects develop.
