1.3 million euros for creative ideas in Northeim: Start learning construction sites!
There is exciting news in southern Lower Saxony! The “Learning Construction Sites – Ideas for Abandoned Places” project receives fantastic support from the federal government. As the HNA reports, the innovative project, which is supported by the Werk-statt-Schule association, will receive funding of around 1.3 million euros. This makes it one of the 30 model projects funded nationwide and has successfully prevailed against over 900 applications.
The federal visit to Northeim in March 2025 had already set the course for this funding, which was now officially announced in June 2025. The project starts on July 1, 2025 and is scheduled to last five years. The aim is to hold creative events and workshops in empty buildings and unused rooms in the historic city centers - in the so-called “Fachwerk5Eck” communities, which include Northeim, Einbeck, Osterode, Duderstadt and Hann. Münden belong – to offer.
Commitment to the community
A central aspect of this project is civic engagement. It is intended to transform the places mentioned into lively meeting places. This fits perfectly with the concept of the federal program “Aller.Land – shaping together. Strengthening structures”, which focuses on structurally weak rural regions in Germany. According to the Federal Government The program was launched to promote cohesion in these regions and strengthen citizen participation.
The program is generating interest: in 2024, 97 regions have developed concepts for new cultural projects. The funded projects aim to involve citizens in the planning and implementation of cultural offerings. This means that underrepresented groups, such as young people or people with disabilities, can also actively participate and realize their ideas. The Aller.Land website describes how the focus is on community-building and locally anchored projects that respond to current local challenges.
A look into the future
A total of 45 million euros are planned for the “Aller.Land” program by 2030. These funds are intended to help bring culture to rural regions, be it in village squares or in empty shops. Each project is funded with up to 1.5 million euros, with states and municipalities having to cover 10% of the costs themselves.
The initiators want to bring about positive change by revitalizing empty buildings through construction campaigns and events. Anyone interested can contact the project office now lernbaustellen@werk-statt-schule.de report. Anyone who would like to help put these promising ideas into practice is warmly invited to take part. A lot is happening in Aller-Land!
