Eleven new practical mentors: Further training strengthens skilled workers in Northeim!

The end of June was an important milestone for eleven committed specialists from the Northeim district. They received their certificates as part of the basic qualification in “practical mentoring”. This further training measure, which was carried out by the Einbeck vocational school in cooperation with the specialist advice for daycare centers in the Northeim district, aims to further strengthen the skills of educational specialists in instructing, advising and supporting trainees. Stefanie Turano, program area manager at KVHS Northeim, emphasized the importance of practice-oriented qualifications in order to ensure the high quality of training in child day care. Jörg Hüddersen, the head of the KVHS Northeim, praised Ariane Viehmann-Koch's course management and noted that such further training courses are crucial for securing skilled workers in the region.

Practical mentoring qualification initiative

The practical mentoring qualification initiative has been promoted by the state of Lower Saxony since 2019 and includes structured training for practical mentoring in daycare centers. This initiative aims to promote specialists who guide trainees in social pedagogy and education. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture supports these efforts with helpful guidelines and training measures to ensure the quality of practical training. The training to become a practical mentor includes a total of 72 teaching hours: 48 hours of basic qualification and 24 hours of additional qualification. The funding guidelines to support in-service qualifications for educational specialists will be extended for the years 2025 and 2026. These measures not only include further training courses, but also networking conferences for specialists in daycare centers.
