Wachenhausen in construction site chaos: renovation starts on July 21st!

Something new is coming to Wachenhausen! Comprehensive renovation work on the local thoroughfare will begin on Monday, July 21, 2025. The measure extends over a length of around 860 meters between the town exits towards Gillersheim and Katlenburg. However, this renovation is no small feat: it will be carried out in four construction phases and is scheduled to be completed by mid-2028. The Northeim district is responsible for the road expansion, while the municipality of Katlenburg-Lindau takes care of the sidewalks, ancillary facilities as well as the rainwater sewer system and the water pipe network. This is reported by HNA.

The investment amount for this major project amounts to around four million euros, of which 1.5 million euros come from state funding. Clearly, investments are being made here in the future of the transport infrastructure and that is of utmost importance even in times of climate protection. According to a study by the German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu), the total investment requirement for transport infrastructure in Germany will be around 372 billion euros by 2030 to ensure sustainable mobility. Cities like Wachenhausen are on the right track! It is important here that we combine a functioning transport structure and at the same time reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Detours and closures

The community connection route to the B 247 will be completely closed from the intersection of Hauptstrasse/Oberdorfstrasse/Kappel. During the first two construction phases, through traffic and heavy goods traffic will be rerouted via the K 416 and the B 247. In the later construction phases, the connection from Gillersheim to the B 247 will be reopened, while the route towards Katlenburg will remain closed in sections. Residents will be informed in good time about the accessibility of their properties, but can expect restrictions. Fortunately, waste disposal remains guaranteed. The bins will be transported and put back so this will not be a problem either.

Another point: Possible changes to regular bus services must also be taken into account. Replacement stops will be set up during construction. Passengers should keep an eye on the notices at the stops or inquire in advance to avoid any unpleasant surprises. A good hand is certainly required here to ensure the mobility of the users.

The look into the future

In summary, it can be said that the renovation of the local thoroughfare is not only a necessary undertaking, but also a step towards better traffic conditions in the region. The Katlenburg area wastewater association is also planning selective renovations to the wastewater sewer, which further underlines the relevance of this work. With a total volume of over three million euros planned for these construction measures from the municipal budget, it is clear that a lot is being invested in the future infrastructure.

Something is definitely happening in Wachenhausen, and it will be exciting to see how the construction work will develop. The challenge of creating an efficient transport infrastructure while at the same time taking climate protection into account will become increasingly present in the coming years. The initiative taken here could serve as a model for other municipalities that also face similar challenges. More information about this can be found on the website of Northeim News and the [Difu].
