Chris Clemons breaks record: 52 points for Oldenburg!
In a thrilling game in the Basketball Bundesliga, the Baskets Oldenburg were able to delight the audience with a clear 108:85 victory over the VET-Concept Gladiators Trier. This not only marked the first win of the new season, but also a real milestone for Christopher “Chris” Clemons, who set a new club record with 52 points. Sports picture reports that Clemons scored the most points in a game in over three decades and climbed to seventh place on the league's all-time list.
Clemons, who moved from SLUC Nancy to Oldenburg in the summer, put in an impressive performance. He hit 18 of 25 shots from the field and converted 9 of 11 three-point shots, which means an impressive shooting percentage of 81.8 percent. All seven free throws also went safely through the net. His coach, Predrag Krunić, was full of praise and recognized his protégé's exceptional performance. The Gladiators' coach, Jacques Schneider, also couldn't help but praise the outstanding Clemons and at the same time criticized his team's defensive performance, especially against this strong player.
A historic moment for the BBL
It is noteworthy that Clemons is the first player since Mike Jackel in 1992 to score more than 52 points in a regular Basketball Bundesliga game. Jackel had scored 55 points in overtime, while Sergei Babkov was the last player to break the 50-point mark with 51 points in 1993. The record for most points in a game is still held by Keith Gray, who scored a sensational 65 points in 1988.
The game itself was exciting and fast-paced throughout the entire game. Oldenburg only narrowly led 51:50 at halftime, but was able to pull away decisively in the second half. Clemons played 36 minutes and 14 seconds, which earned him the respect not only of spectators but also of many experts.
