Woman stabs husband in desperate relationship in Oldenburg!

A dramatic trial is currently underway at the Oldenburg regional court surrounding Katarzyna S., who is accused of killing her husband Sebastian Jan S. with a fatal stab in the heart. The crime occurred on May 9, 2025 in Friesoythe. According to Bild, the police had to be notified via an emergency call when Sebastian S. was already lying on the terrace - an emergency doctor could only determine his death.

Katarzyna S., 33 years old, was deeply saddened by the loss of her husband during the trial. Her lawyer says she acted in a state of fear and desperation. The relationship between the two has been marked by violence and alcohol abuse over the past ten years. When they met in Friesoythe in 2015, the first attacks occurred, which brought the police to the scene several times.

A difficult fate

The two only married in Poland in April 2025 and have an eight-year-old daughter who lives with Sebastian's mother in her home country. The move to Germany on May 3, 2025 was supposed to mean a new beginning for Katarzyna, but just a few days later the situation escalated. According to the indictment, Sebastian S. is said to have thrown his wife out of the apartment while drunk on May 7th.

After this incident, Katarzyna sought safety from an acquaintance, but Sebastian S. forced entry and insulted her before hitting her with a can. It was at that moment that Katarzyna grabbed the kitchen knife and stabbed her. At the trial she said: “I simply stabbed him,” while her lawyer emphasized that she had no intention of killing him.

The context of homicide in relationships

As Gender Studies shows, the public discussion often discusses homicides in couples and families, but such cases remain largely unexplored in the official debate. The frequent interpretation of such acts as the result of a “bad relationship,” in which both partners are viewed as equally responsible, often obscures the dynamics and history of violence in these relationships.

What is particularly alarming is that in many cases the police do not differentiate between different forms of violence and do not sufficiently take previous experiences of violence into account. This disregard is also evident in the current case, which once again raises the question of how seriously the social structures behind such acts are examined.

A verdict is awaited

The trial continues and a verdict is expected at the end of November. In this context, it remains to be seen how Katarzyna S.'s story and the social questions surrounding violence in relationships will be perceived following the verdict.

The tragedy of this family crime not only casts a shadow over the lives of those directly involved, but also points out that homicides in the social environment have complex causes that are often not fully recognized by society and the police.
