Construction of the new Osnabrück-Rosenplatz stop has started!
New Osnabrück-Rosenplatz stop: construction work started, barrier-free access, opening planned by December 2026.

Construction of the new Osnabrück-Rosenplatz stop has started!
Something is happening in Osnabrück! On July 9, 2025, the symbolic starting signal for the construction of the new Osnabrück-Rosenplatz stop was given. This stop, which will be built along the Osnabrück-Bielefeld railway line, will serve as Osnabrück's third city center station. Deutsche Bahn (DB) has joined forces with the Lower Saxony State Local Transport Company (LNVG) and the city of Osnabrück to use this initiative to improve the accessibility of local public transport for residents around Rosenplatz. In total, the construction costs are estimated at around 7 million euros, financed by the “Station Offensive” program by the state, LNVG and city of Osnabrück, as os-rundschau.de reports.
The stop will be strategically positioned between Osnabrück Central Station and Osnabrück-Sutthausen. The planners expect around 100,000 travelers here every year who will benefit from barrier-free design. The platform's equipment will include, among other things, elevators, benches and a digital passenger monitor. Weather protection house and energetic lighting are also part of the plan. Tactile wayfinding will also be installed to make access easier for all passengers, which also meets the accessibility requirements of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, as bmv.de explains.
The construction work in detail
The main work has already begun and starts with the ramming of the sheet pile wall and the construction of 140 meter long noise barriers. Preparatory work has been underway since March 2023 and the first platform edges have already been set. Further closure breaks are planned for the piling work in July 2025. The construction work is expected to be completed by mid-2026, with an official opening of the stop at the timetable change in December 2026.
It is important to know that the following must be taken into account during this construction period: There may be changes to the train schedule, especially between July 5th and 14th, when the route between Hörne and Osnabrück Central Station is closed. Information about this can be easily accessed via the Nordwestbahn website.
What can Osnabrück residents expect?
When the stop goes into operation, around 300 passengers are expected every day. This not only improves accessibility to the southern city center and surrounding residential areas, but also increases the attractiveness of local public transport. The city of Osnabrück also plans to modernize the area around the station after completion - including a new turning hammer and attractive bicycle parking spaces. In this way, a further step towards modern mobility is taken in the region, and residents can look forward to optimal access to public transport connections, as wikipedia.org notes.
