122 graduates celebrate graduation from IGS Lilienthal/Grasberg!

June 22, 2025 was a special day for the 122 graduates of the “Hermine” and “Bernhard” years at IGS Lilienthal/Grasberg. The farewell took place in the new forum of the Grasberg school building, which was at the request of the “Hermine” class. Headmaster Eugen Kolodziej opened the celebrations with a motivating speech and underlined the importance of believing in yourself. The feeling of joy, pride and optimism was clearly noticeable.

The handover of the final certificates from the ninth and tenth grades marks the end of a wonderful school season, which for many students is now entering a new phase. Some graduates already have teaching contracts in their pockets, while others want to take the next step at secondary schools. This shows how important graduating from school is for your personal and professional future.

Celebrations and personal milestones

A highlight of the celebration was the final video “Zero to Hero” produced by the students, which impressively documents the development of the year members and captures the important stages of their time at school. In her speech, Britta Weidling from the Office of Education emphasized the importance of personal development and the pride that every student should have in their own achievements. Kai Entelmann, deputy mayor, also spoke about the relevance of personality and team spirit in today's world.

Some students reported with joy about their plans: Eric Tews wants to become a machining technician, while David vom Berg is aiming for a technical high school diploma. Mia Roselius is planning to train as a teacher, Fynn Manthey wants to become a carpenter and Laura Behrens is looking forward to training as a hairdresser. Year leader Irma Bouwer, who has accompanied the students since fifth grade, was proud of their development during their time at school.

The importance of education

The importance of a good school leaving certificate cannot be overestimated. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, a solid educational path has a major impact on individual career opportunities and also on social participation. There has been an increasing trend in Germany for years that more and more people are aiming for the Abitur as the highest school qualification, which also strengthens innovative strength and economic growth. What is particularly striking is the growing proportion of academics in Germany, while at the same time the proportion of people without any educational qualifications is increasing. This highlights the challenges that many students face and the opportunities that a good education brings.

With a new phase of life in mind, graduates take their next steps with optimism and confidence. The IGS Lilienthal/Grasberg will continue to support them with its exemplary school program and supporting offers in order to provide the best possible support for the next step in their educational journey.
