Colorful floats and creative costumes: Osterholzer Harvest Festival inspires!

On August 10, 2025, the 156th Osterholzer Harvest Festival brought color and joy of life to the city. The participants celebrated the harvest season in a creative way with an impressive parade that included around 90 festively decorated floats and numerous walking groups. The event attracted numerous partygoers who were enthusiastic about the colorful costumes and elaborately designed floats. The Weser-Kurier reports that the harvest wagon builders presented their extraordinary creations, which were often planned for over a year.

Particularly eye-catching was the car of the Ohlenstedt party friends, who implemented the space theme with an astronaut and a chic smoking rocket. “Where the mill wheel hums and water rushes, grain is diligently exchanged for bread,” was the creative slogan of the wheat designers from Lübberstedt, who created a water mill with an idyllic river and a front garden. The De Ohlens, who designed their car with the “Cinderella” theme, also proved to be true artists and used an impressive 14,000 napkins.

Diversity of participants

The spectacle was enriched by performances from a wide variety of groups and clubs. The Weserjugend performed in traditional dirndls and lederhosen, while the duo “Immerwieder sonntags” provided additional entertainment. With colorful costumes and a DJ on a Unimog, there was also a great festive atmosphere among the rural youth. Foot groups such as the Boy Scouts and the VSK group, which numbered around 150 participants, rounded off the picture.

A highlight of the parade was the fanfare “Vorwärts” from Elsfleth, which performed marching music and encouraged spectators to join in the celebration. The variety of self-designed floats also included party floats that had names like “Hard Attack,” “Sound Revolution,” and “Elektrowiese,” which further spiced up the festive atmosphere.

Awards and tradition

The jury had the difficult task of selecting the best cars from the hustle and bustle. In the end, the Ohlenstedt party friends were crowned winners and received 300 euros. The other prizes went to:

1. Celebration friends Ohlenstedt 300 euros
2. Harvest Club 2000 250 euros
3. Wheat designers 200 euros
4. Duo “Always on Sundays”

The harvest festival Sunday began with an ecumenical service in the tent, which was led by Pastor Christa Siemers-Tietjen and pastoral officer Ute Zeilmann and emphasized the importance of the harvest season. On this occasion, a harvest parade under the motto “We are back” also took place in neighboring Schwarme. Various kindergartens, schools and clubs celebrated the day with creative floats and imaginative costumes. Enthusiastic participants presented a “Wild Wild Schools” themed float that offered a saloon ambience, as well as many other creative contributions. The district newspaper informs about it.

Overall, both festivals impressively show how deeply rooted the tradition of the harvest festival is in the region and how it succeeds in bringing generations together and strengthening community - cheers to the harvest season!
