Adventure in Celle: District fire brigade association explores historic city!
On July 2, 2025, the Peine district fire brigade association (KFV) went on an exciting trip to the residential city of Celle. Organized by Heinrich-Jürgen Schmidt from Blumenhagen, 31 participants from Edemissen, Hohenhameln, Ilsede, Peine, Vechelde and Wendeburg took part in the day trip. This trip not only offered a welcome change from everyday life, but also the opportunity to experience Celle's rich history and culture up close.
After arriving in Celle, the first thing on the agenda was an impressive city tour. Celle, known for its lawyers and civil servants, is home to four courts and a high-security prison. The city has had a lot to offer since the founding of a settlement on the river in 993. A highlight is the state stud farm for horse breeding, which has existed since 1735 and now has around 100 stallions. The city tour also took the participants past around 500 restored half-timbered houses that shape the cityscape.
Visit to the training facility
Another highlight of the trip was the visit to the new training center for firefighters in Scheuen, which was built on the site of a former barracks. Participants were able to find out about the offers Lower Saxony State Office for Fire and Disaster Protection (NLBK) inform, which was founded in 2021 and brings together all of the country's resources in the area of fire and disaster protection. Around 170 employees work here and take care of the training of fire brigade members and disaster control authorities.
In Celle, the NLBK offers a variety of training positions and technologies that are essential for modern training in disaster control. The location is well equipped for both leadership training and practical exercises and creates realistic training conditions to optimally prepare firefighters for operations.
Insights into fire service training
The Lower Saxony Academy for Fire and Disaster Protection (NABK), which is also part of the training landscape in Lower Saxony, was also mentioned in the discussions. Courses for technical and management tasks in fire and disaster control are offered here. The academy focuses on practical training, with the Celle location operating an acceptance point for municipal fire engines and a central testing center for fire hoses.
At the end of the day, the participants were able to enjoy lunch in a typical Celle old town restaurant before returning home after a cool drink and a leisurely walk. There is already great anticipation for the next destinations for the day trip in June 2026. The participants not only honored the city of Celle, but also the tireless fire brigade, who are always ready to help in emergencies in Lower Saxony.
