Volksbank BRAWO: Strong commitment to children and the environment in the region!

Sustainability and social commitment are very important at Volksbank BRAWO and the BRAWO GROUP. As paz-online.de reports, the two institutions are intensively committed to equal opportunities, the fight against child poverty and environmental protection. The United Kids Foundations, which has been active since 2005, plays a central role in this and has already launched over 653 projects that reach more than 88,150 children and young people.

A special highlight was the walk4help event, which took place on July 5, 2025 in the Bürgerpark Braunschweig. An impressive 2 million euros were collected here for projects in the region, from which four initiatives in Peine will also benefit. The support of the “Stiftung RTL – We help children e.V.” and the Volksbank BRAWO Foundation made it possible to support five RTL children's homes in the BRAWO region. A primary school in the southern part of the city, which has around 300 students, benefits from projects such as “Music Owls” – another sign of the bank’s sustainable responsibility.

Innovative approaches for children and young people

The IGLU study shows alarming results: one in five children leaves home without breakfast, which leads to a number of negative consequences, such as a lack of concentration and lower grades. To counteract this, the brotZeit association is committed to offering free school breakfasts to primary and special schools that have special needs. Here, senior citizens act as breakfast helpers who, in addition to providing a strengthening meal, are also contact persons for the children. The initiative, which was launched in 2009, was able to establish itself in 21 funding regions in Germany and ensures that 18.7 million breakfasts are prepared by 2,800 volunteers every year.

These collaborations are crucial to achieving the United Nations goals, the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNICEF emphasizes that every individual action counts in order to effectively support children worldwide. Here, too, it becomes clear how important partnerships are at regional and local levels. UNICEF responded to 281 humanitarian crises in 96 countries in 2019, enabling over 17 million children to access education and preventing malnutrition for 307 million children under the age of 5.

Positive experiences and commitment

A trainee at Volksbank BRAWO reports on his positive experiences in the company and emphasizes that he chose the bank because of its good reputation and open collegiality. Today he is active in the corporate customer sector and looks after medium-sized customers. The Volksbank itself is not only involved in social projects, but has also founded its own foundation that supports numerous initiatives.

The Volksbank BRAWO group of companies also has a diverse portfolio that includes real estate and green energy. In doing so, it moves with the times and shows that a good knack for economic responsibility can go hand in hand with social commitment. Internal programs like “TAFF!” to promote employees and training by experienced specialists via the Geno Academy round off the comprehensive commitment.

In the BRAWO region, sustainable and socially responsible action is the top priority - and this benefits not only the current generations, but also those to come.
