Elia inspires at the awarding of the Colorful Sole in Salzgitter!
On October 5, 2025, the coveted “Bunte Sole” prize was awarded in Salzgitter, honoring people who are committed to diversity and integration in the city. Around 700 guests gathered for this festive occasion in the auditorium of the Fredenberg high school, where the program included entertainment, cabaret, music and dance. Moderated by Dincer Dinc, the Salzgitter-Bad local group of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) was honored as the winner, setting standards with its swimming course for women with a migration background. However, the introduction to the evening was unforgettable when nine-year-old Elia stepped up to the microphone and gave a moving speech about solidarity.
His words, which began with the question of how peaceful coexistence is possible, were rewarded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the audience. Elia appealed not to exclude anyone, regardless of whether they have material things like football boots or not. This message of cohesion and mutual respect is in perfect harmony with the aim of the prize, which has been awarded since 2013, then known as the Integration Prize. The “Bunte Sole” honors both outstanding projects and small everyday gestures that strengthen togetherness. Those interested can apply themselves or be suggested, which makes the prize particularly diverse, as News38 reports.
A prize with meaning
The DLG Salzgitter-Bad local group was recognized for its swimming course, which took place from January to June. Eight women had the opportunity to overcome their fear of water in a protected environment and to develop new trust in the swimming coaches. Those participants reported positive experiences and a feeling of freedom through swimming, which made this offer not just a course, but the beginning of a new emancipation. The project thus sends a strong signal for a new coexistence in society.
In his speech, Stefan Klein, the first mayor of Salzgitter, praised the tireless efforts of all those who work for integration. This prize is therefore not only an award, but also an important invitation to take further initiatives. The DLG has already received 18 further inquiries from women with a migration background who are interested in similar offers. The commitment in Salzgitter is far from over.
A celebration of integration
The award ceremony was a colorful celebration, organized by the Department for Integration and the Citizens' Service for Migrants (BSfM). With performances by well-known artists, including Robert Beitsch & Crew, Anissa Loucif and the violin duo Angelstrings, the event also became an evening of culture and shared experiences. Such events are of great importance in order to promote and advance the cohesion of the different cultures in Salzgitter, as is increasingly the focus in other regions.
Overall, the awarding of the “Bunte Sole” prize shows once again how important diversity and integration are for social interaction. The honest stories and commitment of people like Elia make it clear: There is still a lot of potential in the community that needs to be used!
