Successful course for pedagogical cooperation in primary schools started!

In Lower Saxony there is great demand for qualified teaching staff in primary schools and, increasingly, in all-day schools. This is reflected in the successful completion of a special course that was recently completed at the Salzgitter Adult Education Center. The participants not only received valuable knowledge about pedagogy, methodology and didactics, but also practical experience in a 160-hour internship.

The eight-month course enabled the participants to expand their skills in communication and conversation management. This means they are ideally equipped to take on a wide range of tasks at schools, such as planning supplementary teaching offers, supervising classes in the event of substitution and providing support in everyday school life. Some of the graduates have already started training as social-educational assistants at the vocational schools in Fredenberg, which underlines the importance of this program, as salzgitter.de also reports.

New perspectives in secondary school

With the outlook for the upcoming course in November 2025, the Lower Saxony state government is implementing aggressive plans to strengthen all-day and comprehensive schools. A new supplementary module will build on the already established course. The aim here is to increase the use of teaching staff at secondary level I. The module focuses on learning democracy through project work and group learning. This should help young people to develop and represent their own opinions in order to best prepare them for future challenges. Further information can be found at vhs-nds.de.

For participants who already have experience in the educational field, this offer represents a valuable addition to their qualifications. Content such as planning and implementing projects as well as getting to know the needs of students in their leisure activities are very popular.

The path to all-day school

The expansion of all-day schools in Lower Saxony is already well advanced and represented in various school types. Around 80% of all-day schools offer an open program based on voluntary participation. This requires a good hand in designing the school environment. The alternation between learning and leisure activities as well as taking into account the students' urge for exercise and relaxation needs represent special challenges that can only be mastered by committed educational staff. Further details about the different organizational models can be found at bildungsportal-niedersachsen.de.

For those interested in working at schools or daycare centers, the route is through a personal consultation appointment at the adult education center in order to be registered for further training. Financing can be provided by the job center or the employment agency, which makes this offer accessible to many.
