Accident escape in Rinteln: Police are looking for witnesses after car damage!
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, there were two hit and run incidents in Rinteln and Rehren, which are now keeping the local police on their toes. According to Schaumburger Landeszeitung, an Opel Corsa was parked in the KIK parking lot at Bahnhofstrasse 14 26-year-old damaged between 11 and 11:30 a.m. The resulting damage is estimated at around 2,000 euros. What a nuisance! And the worst thing: the person responsible simply ran away.
But a vehicle was not spared in another parking lot at Rehrener Straße 25 in Rehren. There, an unknown road user damaged a 56-year-old Skoda Oktavia between 9:40 a.m. and 10 a.m. The police estimate the damage at several hundred euros. What a shame that there are such reckless drivers in our city!
Police ask for help
The Rinteln police are urgently looking for witnesses who can provide information about these incidents. Anyone who has seen anything or can provide information about the damaged vehicles is asked to call 05751 / 96460. The Rehren police are also happy to receive calls on 05752 / 9290915.
Hit and run does not appear to be an isolated case. Statistics show that more and more people are simply running away from traffic accidents that result in personal injury. In 2024, numerous cases were recorded in Germany, which were documented in the [Statista statistics](https://de.statista.com/statistics/data/study/1056312/umfrage/zahl-der-unfallfluechtigen-bei-unfaellen-mit-personal Schaden-in-deutschland/). The number of people fleeing accidents has been rising continuously for years, which is a worrying development.
It is of course understandable that in a moment of uncertainty your nerves are frayed. However, responsible drivers should not disappear from the scene if they have caused damage. The police have very clear rules, and those who follow them will certainly sleep better.
So stay vigilant, dear readers, because a good hand can't hurt in this city's parking lots either. Every tip can help to hold those responsible accountable and make the streets a little safer.
