District administrators and mayors call for donations for war graves!

In the coming period, numerous volunteers will be active in the Stade district to collect donations for an important cause: supporting the German War Graves Commission. District Administrator Kai Seefried and the mayors have joined forces and are calling on citizens to donate generously. The collection will take place, among other things, at the Stade weekly market, where District Administrator Seefried will ask for support on Remembrance Day. Influenced by a long-standing tradition, the district administrator has been committed to this important task as district chairman of the Volksbund for years and collects in the old town of Stade in autumn.

What is particularly noteworthy is that a donation of just 10 euros ensures the care of a soldier's grave for a whole year. The Volksbund records, preserves and maintains the graves of German war dead at home and abroad. He currently looks after more than 830 war cemeteries in almost 100 countries with over 2,000,000 graves. The donations not only finance the maintenance of these sites, but also support the search for the missing victims of both world wars and the Volksbund's important youth work.

Fundraising details

The period of the current collections extends until November 2nd. The volunteers, including members of the Bundeswehr and members of reservist associations, bring the concerns directly to the people - be it at their front door or at the cemeteries on All Saints' Day. Oliver Bauer, managing director of the Volksbund in Lower Franconia, emphasizes the role of German military cemeteries: “They are memorials for peace and international understanding.” This statement illustrates the deeper meaning of war cemeteries, which goes far beyond simple maintenance.

The donations will be used for the care and preservation of these resting places, as well as for the search for the victims of the Second World War. More and more people are becoming actively involved in the Volksbund; The collection is largely financed through donations and voluntary contributions. If local collection is not possible directly, citizens have the option of donating directly to the district association's account at Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg. You should note your name and place of residence in the intended use.

Impressive memorial events

A very special highlight of the fundraising campaign is the central commemoration event for Remembrance Day, which will take place on November 15th at 4 p.m. at the garrison cemetery in Stade. This is predominantly organized by schools and their students - a strong sign that the younger generation is actively involved in the work of remembrance. The program will be published shortly and promises to impressively illustrate the importance of remembrance and peace work.

The Volksbund's ongoing public relations work is essential: In addition to the care of the graves, educational work is an essential part of the organization. This includes, among other things, youth camps, traveling exhibitions and project days at schools that introduce young people to the history and meaning of the culture of remembrance.

In summary, it can be said that the fundraising campaign not only promotes the material care of war graves, but also brings international understanding and peace to the fore. We invite all Cologne residents to take part in this valuable initiative and thus set an example for a more peaceful future.
