New City Stadium in Polastron: A social meeting place for everyone!
Today, October 26, 2025, a new city stadium was inaugurated in Polastron. The grand opening took place in the presence of numerous local politicians and is part of a larger plan to improve the quality of life in the community. The mayor of Polastron, Alain Laffiteau, emphasized the important role of the City-Stade as a social meeting place for the families in the area. The main goal of this project is to promote coexistence and to offer the children at the nearby school more opportunities for exercise. The school itself has 50 students and offers various activities in collaboration with the community.
Particularly noteworthy are the recent transformations of the square in front of the church, where the statue of the Virgin, the cross and the monument to the fallen were moved to a more harmonious location. These measures have not only improved the surroundings of the new City-Stade, but also ensured better connections to the local infrastructure. In addition to the traditional sports, Polastron also presents the new game style Golbang, a 3-on-3 football format that does not require physical contact or dribbling and is accessible to all age groups. The method can also be applied to basketball and has already received the approval of the French Federation of Multi-Sports Clubs.
Financing and grants
The costs for setting up the City-Stade amount to a total of 561,154 euros, of which 472,697 euros are net expenses. In order to realize such a sports facility, 54% funding from state, regional and local authorities was used. This illustrates how important local and state support is for the development of sporting infrastructure. The national sports funding program “Plan 5000 équipements Génération 2024” also aims to finance local sports facilities in order to create opportunities, particularly in disadvantaged districts and rural communities.
Grants of up to 80% of the project volume are available for the total budget of 92 million euros, as long as the conditions meet the specified standards - this also applies to dimensions, security and access to the new sports facilities. These facilities can contribute to a sustainable and vibrant community and are crucial for promoting sport and cohesion in cities and villages.
The trend towards modern sports infrastructure
The construction and renovation of sports facilities has increased significantly in recent years. According to reports on infrastructure projects, the trend can be observed primarily in North America, Europe and Asia. More than 300 stadiums worldwide are expected to be modernized or newly built by 2025, demonstrating that sports venues are not just competition arenas, but also act as engines for social cohesion and local identity. In many cities, such as Birmingham, comprehensive user concepts are being developed that promote sport and the community and at the same time provide economic stimulus.
The inauguration of the City-Stade in Polastron marks another important step towards a united and active community, and it remains to be seen what other projects will follow in the near future. Because one thing is clear: sport brings people together!
