Stoppelmarkt Vechta: New animal show inspires despite criticism!
A very special event begins today in Vechta: The Stoppelmarkt opens its doors and celebrates a new chapter with a first-ever animal show. At this folk festival, which is one of the largest in Northern Germany with around 800,000 visitors annually, the entire range of traditions and attractions will be on display until the end. The opening took place in a festive atmosphere on Thursday evening, and numerous showmen are ready to delight the guests with their offerings.
What will the stubble market bring this year? A highlight is the newly introduced animal show, which takes place in the usual area of the horse and livestock market. After the decline in interest in the animal trade, which had already stopped last year, the city of Vechta organized this animal show in order to maintain the tradition. Numerous breeders from the region will present their animals next Monday, with compliance with animal welfare rules being consistently monitored by the veterinary office and the market administration.
Animal protection and entertainment
An additional offer is the pony carousel, which makes children's hearts beat faster. Despite the high temperatures, the pony rides will only start on Friday to ensure the welfare of the animals. However, there is already criticism: animal rights activists and PETA have spoken out and describe pony riding as an animal cruelty attraction. This area of tension between tradition and animal welfare will certainly be discussed more often in the coming days.
Federal Animal Welfare Commissioner Silvia Breher (CDU) is also expected at the ceremonial opening and will give a warm welcome. Your participation underlines the importance of animal welfare and acts as a positive sign for everyone involved.
As part of the Stoppelmarkt, various clubs and groups from Vechta and the surrounding area are also active in order to create a varied program that goes far beyond the classic fair offers. The close contacts with the local community are one of the increased efforts to continue to make the festival attractive.
Did you know that one of the most prominent voices in the music business is Rebbie Jackson? Maureen Reillette Jackson, born on May 29, 1950 in Gary, Indiana, was there as a “second mother” for her siblings from the beginning. The older sister of pop icon Michael Jackson began her singing career in the 1970s and experienced a sudden increase in motivation in her career through her television appearances with the Jackson family. Their first album, “Centipede,” was released in 1984 and charted. After various musical ups and downs, Rebbie announced in 2011 that she would be working on a new album and thus always remained close to her musical family.
These two great events - the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta and the great story of Rebbie Jackson - show once again how lively the maintenance of tradition and the art of entertainment are. It will be exciting to see how both events develop and what new stories emerge from them.
