Lack of drivers threatens citizens' bus in Thedinghausen - help urgently needed!

There is currently an urgent problem in the joint municipality of Thedinghausen: the community bus association is urgently looking for volunteer drivers for its popular community bus “Bert”. The current eight drivers from the neighboring community of Weyhe support the operation, but this is not a sustainable solution. The chairman of the association, Wolfgang Kaib, makes it clear that operations will soon no longer be possible without additional help. An appeal also goes out to the council members: They should actively advertise for new drivers in order to secure the citizen bus service, which has existed since August 18, 2011 and transports passengers from various locations to the centers of Thedinghausen, Riede and Blender.

The requirements for interested drivers are clear. You must be at least 21 years old, have a car driver's license and at least two years of driving experience. A health check and a certificate of good conduct are also required. However, the association pays for all the necessary courses and medical examinations, which is a big plus. In addition, the drivers are insured by the association, which offers them additional security.

Meetings and information

Those interested can contact us by phone at 04204/223414 report or get further information on the association's website buergerbus-samtgemeinde-thedinghausen.de. In addition, driver meetings take place every last Wednesday of the month, except in December, in the garage in Lunsen, Hof Peters, at 6:15 p.m. At these meetings there is not only a planning meeting for the coming month, but also the opportunity to exchange ideas about the citizen bus.

Mayor Thomas Metz underlines the role of the community bus as an important part of local public transport in the region. “That’s what we miss if we can’t keep the bus running,” he says. The citizens' bus is a valuable support for many citizens, who can stay mobile in this way and use the connection to important centers.

The call to recruit drivers makes it clear how important voluntary support is in order to be able to maintain community bus operations in the future. Therefore, anyone who has the qualifications or knows someone who could imagine taking part should urgently get in touch. The community needs strong support, and together they can ensure that “Bert” continues to roll through the streets of the community.
