Fischerhude-Quelkhorn triumphs: 3-0 in the district derby against Brunsbrock!
The oval leather rolled and the tension was hard to miss. Last Sunday, the footballers from TSV Fischerhude-Quelkhorn and TSV Brunsbrock met in a thrilling district derby that took place in the district football league. In the end, Fischerhude clearly won 3-0 and was able to take another step forward in the table. The game took place at the Kohlenförde, where coach Jörg Evers and his colleague Jan Blanken were on the sidelines for Fischerhude. On the other hand, Lennart Gerken controlled the action for Brunsbrock.
In the first half it was “hard work” for the Fischerhuder women, as Evers aptly remarked. Despite Brunsbrock's possession of the ball, Evers' kickers were able to take the lead in the 32nd minute with a header from Mette Marie Heitkamp after a corner. Brunsbrock had a lot of possession, but the players lacked clear opportunities to really pose a threat.
A double pack secures victory
The second half brought the decisive breakthrough for Fischerhude. In the 73rd minute, Sophie Jaquet made the fans cheer when she scored 0-2 after a counterattack. Six minutes later it was Jaquet again who made the final score 0-3 with her second goal. Evers praised his team's defensive stability after this lead, while Gerken, who praised Brunsbrock's development, felt the defeat did not correspond to the course of the game.
With this win, Fischerhude climbs to third place in the table, while Brunsbrock remains in fourth place after this match. The next game for Brunsbrock is already imminent, the team will play against FC Oste/Oldendorf II after the winter break on March 15, 2026. Fischerhude, on the other hand, expects FC Ostereistedt/Rhade to start the spring round.
The growing enthusiasm for women's football
What does this development in the district league mean for women's football as a whole? Women's football in Germany is enjoying increasing popularity. According to a survey, over 75% of women surveyed in Germany said they had a strong interest in football. This enthusiasm is also reflected in the numbers: around 100,000 women and around 107,000 girls up to the age of 16 are active in football. In addition, almost 9,700 female DFB teams were active last season.
Another highlight was the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, which took place in Switzerland in July. England successfully defended their title, while Germany, two-time world champions and eight-time European champions, started the tournament with high expectations but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Spain. These developments show how dynamic and promising women's football is in this country.
To all fans and supporters: Stay tuned, there is a lot happening in women's football!
