Kirchlinteln pitches in: ninth aid transport for Ukraine starts!
A dedicated group of helpers from Kirchlinteln packs up their willingness to help and sets off to provide important support in Ukraine. On Sunday morning, Uwe Roggatz and Hermann Meyer set off in a decommissioned bus that was filled to the ceiling with relief supplies. This is the ninth transport that goes from the small community in Lower Saxony to the war-torn town of Tlumatsch in western Ukraine, as the Weser-Kurier reports.
The bus, built in 2006 and from EVB in Zeven, has already covered an impressive 900,000 kilometers and could be used in Ivano-Frankivsk city traffic in the future. With a capacity of 110 passengers, it is now traveling, fully loaded with 13 meters of relief supplies, to an area that is particularly suffering from the consequences of the war. Arrival in Ukraine is scheduled for Wednesday morning, July 9th, where a German-speaking soldier will meet the helpers at the border. A visit to the Tlumatsch orphanage is scheduled for the following Friday, July 11th.
Extensive relief supplies for those in need
Included in your luggage are, among other things:
- Kinderbekleidung für ein Waisenhaus
- Musikinstrumente für eine Musikschule
- Ein komplettes zahnärztliches Behandlungszimmer
- Geräte zur Augenvermessung
- 20 Rollstühle und Rollatoren
- Fünf elektrisch verstellbare Pflegebetten
- Hochwertige Verbandsmaterialien und Stents für die Uni-Klinik in Iwano-Frankiwsk
The necessary medical equipment and aids are both in urgent demand and lifesavers for many people who are dependent on support during this difficult time. A previous aid transport had already delivered medical equipment, walkers and prostheses to the twin town of Tlumatsch in December with a fully loaded 40-ton truck. The arrival was in time for Christmas and was personally welcomed by Mayor Ihor Petruk.
Construction machinery is urgently needed
But the help doesn't end with the transport of relief supplies. Ukraine-Hilfe Kirchlinteln is calling for construction machinery such as rollers and graders to be made available to renovate the municipal roads in Tlumatsch. Mayor Arne Jacobs appeals to VDBUM companies to donate machines that are still usable. The aim is not only to repair the roads, but also to establish contacts for the future reconstruction of the road network.
The infrastructural problems in Ukraine are immense, especially since the infrastructure in many regions has not been repaired for three years. The solidarity of the Kirchlintler team plays an important role here, as they also want to take part in the new transport of relief goods.
In this context, the Foreign Office reminds of the ongoing security situation in Ukraine and warns travelers about congestion at border crossings. Important recommendations such as carrying cash in foreign currencies, sufficient drinking water, provisions and entering the Elefand crisis preparedness list should be kept in mind. In addition, special regulations apply to the driving and rest times of relief goods, especially for transports aimed at humanitarian aid.
Kirchlintler Ukraine-Hilfe would like to thank all donors and supporters who make this possible. The next aid deliveries are already being planned, and the community's commitment shines brightly in dark times.
