Verden district reduces deficit and strengthens clinics with investments worth millions!

A lot is happening in the Verden district: The financial prospects for the Aller-Weser-Klinik are positive. The district is planning grants of 13.4 million euros for 2026 to sustainably strengthen the clinic. This decision follows a positive development: the deficit at the Aller-Weser-Klinik has fallen after business and organizational realignments were successfully implemented. This year the district is recording a deficit of over 30 million euros, but the forecasts for 2026 call for a reduction to under 20 million euros. This is reported by the District newspaper.

The positive trend is supported by a remarkable increase in the tax capacity of the municipalities in the district, which has increased by 10.7 percent. This could create more financial flexibility. In addition, the trade tax revenue surprised with a pleasing result: instead of the planned 12 million euros, 20 million were actually collected. Such figures benefit the planning of the district, which has not taken on any new debt for years, although in November it may have to combine work with loans.

Investments in infrastructure

The district is investing heavily in the future. From the adjusted budget, 4.5 million euros will flow into broadband expansion in order to promote the digital infrastructure. In addition, 2.6 million euros are planned for the expansion of district roads. The schools also benefit from this budget planning: almost half a million euros flow into the Erisch Kästner School in Achim and the vocational school in Verden. In addition, investments of around 1.8 million euros are planned in the Allerniedung and 1.5 million euros in the Langwedel waste transfer station and the waste yards.

Particularly noteworthy are the areas of youth and family as well as social affairs, which will represent the largest item with an increase of over five million euros in the budget. Here you can see that contemporary and fair social support is important to those responsible.

Care options at the Aller-Weser Clinic

In order to give the beginnings a solid basis in the health sector, the Aller-Weser Clinic is planning an information evening for expectant parents. This will take place on October 30, 2025 and offers an excellent opportunity to find out about obstetric care and the delivery room facilities. Dr. Astrid Brunnbauer, the head of gynecology and obstetrics, will be on site to clarify questions and reduce fears.

A central theme of the evening is the promotion of physiological birth - a natural process that focuses on the health of mother and child and respects the wishes of the parents. The clinic relies on individual 1:1 care from midwives, spacious rooms and a variety of options for pain relief. The event will take place in the new cafeteria of the Aller-Weser-Klinik and what is exciting is that further dates have already been set to give those expectant parents who cannot attend on October 30th the opportunity to find out more.

Overall, it shows that the Verden district is not only working towards a positive path financially, but is also actively investing in the quality of healthcare. Preparations for the 2026 budget negotiations are already underway when the Finance Committee begins its first discussions on October 28th. The district council will then have the final say by December 8th. The signs are good that both financial stability and health care in the district can be sustainably improved.
