In the world of running events, the athletes of the LG Kreis Verden have picked up speed. From the streets of Frankfurt to the sunny shores of Cyprus, numerous runners took part and achieved remarkable results, even if the weather and health problems challenged some of them. In the Frankfurt marathon it was Sascha Kroll who aimed to improve his personal best of 2:49 hours. Despite aiming for a record performance, he crossed the finish line after 2:55:31 hours, which earned him 942nd place and secured a solid 131st place in the M40 Masters category.
Marathon opportunities and challenges
Stefan Steinert took part in the marathon in Dresden with the goal of achieving a time of 2:44 hours. Unfortunately, he struggled with muscular problems at kilometer 35 and had to stop the competition prematurely. To his surprise, he was incorrectly listed as 21st with a time of 2:45:00 hours.
A newcomer to the marathon field was Reiner Fetter, who ran his first marathon in Dresden. He finished the race in 3:44:32 hours, which put him in 625th place and 20th in the M55 Masters category. With this time he also secured fifth place in the district best list.
But it wasn't just the men who delivered. Gerd Ranke achieved a time of 1:40:15 hours in the half marathon, improving by five minutes on his previous best time. His commitment paid off with a 666th place finish and an impressive second place in the M65 runner category. The W55 runners Kirsten Töpfer and Annett Bengsch also showed their skills and achieved ranks 1593 and 1595 for women with a half marathon time of 2:17:53 hours.
Successes and new challenges
But the successes don't end in Germany. Rüdiger Ullrich competed in Kolborn and came second in the M70 Masters with a best time of the year of 26:00 minutes. And in Cyprus, Felix Schubert took seventh place in the men's ten-kilometer road race with a time of 38:16 minutes.
Overall, it was a weekend full of challenges and achievements for the runners from the LG Kreis Verden. The different weather conditions and health problems not only challenged the athletes, but also made the results achieved all the more impressive. It remains to be seen where their travels will take them next.
